General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
When I told my husband that my '06 Royal Grey MINI was cute, he said it was just a hunk of iron???? Sacrilege I say!!! Then he went on to say it was a TIN CAN!!!
I think we may have a very serious issue here!!! We know who will be getting full custody of MY MINI!!!
I went through the same thing with my wife when I bought my Boxster S in 2000. It prompted me to write this review. She couldn't get passed the whole "Poor-Man's Porsch" thing.
Now, to quote Cartman, she knows to "Respect Mah Authoritah!" She even sometimes steals the Mini keys and goes for early-morning drives with our boys when I'm asleep. All they need is a little training!
whenever i talk about my mini to my friends all they say is 'it's just a mini....'
no no..it's MORE than a mini..it's a MINI
I know you said that in jest, but speaking from a dual Mini family, Mini's are great, any Mini is a wonderful Mini. Whether it is a MC, MCa, MCS, MCSa, it doesn't matter, all Mini's are great Minis!!!!!
Yeah, I had the tin can thing put at me a few years back when the Mini first reappeared. So here we are, after he gets his dream car of course, getting the wifey her Mini. I haven't heard the tin can comment as of yet. He actually likes the car this go around. Maybe he grew up a little.
I'm guessing your just trying to be funny but you know he's right. All cars are just hunks of depreciating metal that will all end up in the junkyard of Mexico
You paid $65K for a 2000 Boxster S? Say that ain't true. An 08 987S is much less than that.
Optioned out, that's what they cost. Porsche truly gives you nothing in a base vehicle. Believe me, I knew I was getting into stock 996 territory price-wise, but similar options would have brought the 996 up to over $85k. Mine, optioned-out, was listed at $72k and I got them down $7k, which is unheard of in a Porsche dealership, at least at the time and on that car.
Does he refer to kids at "snot-nosed urchins," puppies as "fout-legged poop factories" or sunsets as "so what, the Earth is rotating, who cares??" He probably even considers Beethoven a "one-hit wonder."

I know the name of a good divorce lawyer if you need it.

MSRP about $50K. Thats $22K in options. Wow. Full wood customer interior? You must have had a lot of options in there.

That's incorrect. Base for the S right now is $55.7k. Configured in Sport or Luxury right now is $66.2k. Mine has both, plus Turbo-look wheels and full leather interior. Go to Porsche.com - price out a sport with upgraded wheels and full leather interior and what do you get? $73k. I'm telling you, Porsche base is basically a stripper. And on top of that, MSRP has come down twice since 2000, so I did get a decent deal, all things considered.
Also, in 2000, there was no way you could get an S discounted one bit, at least not in SoCal. This may not be true now, but then most LA dealers were getting about $5k above list. I got mine for $7k under, which was unheard of, especially in Santa Monica.
You'd have thought price alone would have prevented my wife from dissing my ride...

My father in law calls the Mini a "Puddle Jumper"... I'm not really sure how to take that comment...
For those of you who never knew life without color tv, a "puddle jumper" simply means a small car, although some barge-drivers say it in a dirisive manner. Just say, "aye, as opposed to a sinking barge."
Unless I'm stating the obvious (or missed a joke somewhere), I grew up thinking of a "Puddle-Jumper" as a small airplane, usually commercial, usually prop-driven, like something a regional airline would use. My mom always said I'd be on a puddle jumper when I would fly from Reno to Oakland, and I always assumed the "puddle" in our case was Lake Tahoe. There's even now a company with the Puddle Jumper name that makes ultra-light aircraft.
