Mini Sales Up!

I seem to recall someone saying Mini sales were down and they tried to blame the R56, well according to MotoringFile, MiniUSA sales are up 44.2%. Outstanding! http://www.motoringfile.com/2008/03/...-for-february/

Might help that they have the Clubman now. I'm sure people that weren't considering a MINI before because of its size are now considering (and purchasing) the Clubman.

The clubman is in much too limited in supply to be a major factor.

The R56 just rocks =)

While this feb numbers were good..

remeber the month was almost 4% longer. Also, don't take one month year on year sales as too much of a mark. What if last feb really sucked? Anualized the ~3400 in a four week month comes out to a bit less than 45,000 in a year.. This is NOT a 44% increase in anual sales....

See, isn't it fun what you can do with numbers?

Trust me you don't want a PT Cruiser. I had one as a company car and the transmission was replaced twice and it was a piece of junk.

Largest February ever.
About 700 of the sales were clubmen, even removing those it is the second largest february ever.

I guess the end isn't near after all!

Overall, BMW Group sales worldwide (includes MINI) went DOWN in February: http://www.bimmerfile.com/2008/03/03...-for-february/. What would the numbers have been if MINI didn't make a big gain?

What are numbers for BMW USA sales in February? The big shipping accident wouldn't have been good for them.

Here are the numbers:

Really annoys me that the manufacturers don't even have to treat their SUVs as passenger cars.

rkw,

Could you post where you found this chart? Just out of curiosity, I'd like to follow it as the year progresses.

Numbers were from the link lotsie posted: http://www.autospies.com/news/BMW-Gr...NI-44-2-27149/. I simply imported and formatted the figures into Excel for readability.

A couple of questions for someone who knows the answer:

(1) What month did they stop making the old gen Mini?
(2) When did they start selling the R56?

Thanks in advance!

Next Generation MINI Production Timeline

Sections: R55, R56, R57 Aug 8th, 2006 36 Comments

“When is the R56 and/or R55 going to be available?” It’s a question we hear constantly these days from folks with deposits burning a hole in their pockets. We’ve answered it a few times on the site but, with the help of some new information, we can shed a bit more light on the topic. According to our sources, here’s a list of rough US market release dates for MINI over the next several years. Expect European and UK dates to be similar, if not a few months before.
  • MINI Coupe (R56) / February 2007 (11.06 in Euope & UK)
  • MINI Extended Wheelbase (R55) / Spring 2008
  • MINI Convertible (R57) / Spring 2009
  • ?? (R58) / Nothing is green-lit yet but it could be rather “interesting”.
Production started August 2006 after retooling of Oxford plant.

What impresses me in those overall sales figures is that MINI now represents about 12% of BMW NA sales. That's quite an achievement for a relatively new brand with one basic model offering (now two, with the Clubman). Meanwhile, back in Oxford, the MINI plant now has capacity for 250,000 MINIs per year, over twice the initial plant capacity. Looks like BMW's decision to resurrect the moribund MINI brand is working out quite nicely!
