What do you tow with your MINI?

Hi folks,

Noticed quite a few on here have hitches installed. So, what do you tow with your MINI? Do you have a cargo trailer? Camping trailer? Motorcycle trailer? Very curious to see pics or links to things being towed with the mighty mouse. Also, very interested in any camping gear related stuff you tow... I've seen some small popup style campers, mostly for towing behind motorcycles.

This could be a lot of fun I think, seeing what our MINI mules can do!

No replies? I'm gonna tow an ATV on occasion. No pics though. I don't have the Mini or the trailer yet. Total weight should be under 600 pounds.

Fwiw, here are some popup campers I found that can most likely be towed with a MINI:

What do you all think?

Seems like there are more threads on trailers in the first gen forum. I've been lurking over there a bit.

Not mine, but this is the only thing I've ever seen a MINI tow:

It was dissapearing around the corner before I could get a good picture of it.

IIRC, the Mini is rated for 1400 lbs. Quick google shows that brand/size trailer to be around 800 pounds. Supposedly they were designed to be towed by aircooled vw's.

That's an awesome camper, that Eriba! Too bad they don't sell them here. I tracked a couple of used ones in the US, but nothing near me. I didn't realize the MINI could tow something that large.

The trailers look good too and fairly inexpensive I would guess. Where did you guys get those? That may be an option since they can double as cargo carriers (I could pack a tent and all supplies in it then).

If that's the Puck 120 they say its 526kg (unladen) which is 1160lb, or 700lb gross which would exceed the 1400lb rating.

Better pack light. The empty weight is 240# from max rated tow. Fill your propane and water tanks, stock the ice chest and depending on what else you toss in, you might be in trouble.

Heres another link to tent trailers and these are normally fitted with wheels to match the towing vehicle. and @ 600 lbs you should be able to add your gear and be okay.

Now that is pretty cool. I think half the crowd here (NAM) is horrified at towing with a Mini but I see nothing wrong with it if you do it right. Operative word here is "IF".

OMG, that thing gets spendy quick. $7800 in the example invoice.

There are a few camping "teardrop trailers" out there that MINIs can tow -- one mfr I talked to said that they've sold frequently to MINI owners.

Thanks for the links! I love the teardrop trailers, they're so cool! Whew, the prices of some of these trailers are like half the price of my car!

I guess you can go crazy with this stuff. Hmmm, now the choices are really hard, there's so much variety out there. Tbh, I have never personally seen a MINI or any car around that size haul anything behind it, at least not around here. Looking forward to turning heads yet another way.

Cool, matching color and (almost) wheels too!

Looks like the cabrio won't have any problems towing something like that.

I posted this some where else, but yeah. 17 foot long boat, 25 foot long mast on top of it, and the trailer.

Harbor Freight Folding trailer

Here is my trailer I use for hauling my kids Kart to the track and back. It is a Harbor Freight 4x8 folding trailer. Pulls great, don't even know it's back there. It is a Minidomore.com hitch. Which is really nice build quality and Brent is a nice guy to boot!
