I actually had a problem similar to this once. Motor was running like dirt. Turns out squirrels had filled the air cleaner with dog hair and acorns. At least it was a quick fix!

Ha! I read a story in the newspaper a while back of a guy who got in his car, and drive 5 or so miles down the road, and kept hearing a weird noise coming from the engine compartment, so he pulled over and popped the hood to have a look, and it turned out to be a cat in the engine compartment banging around! The cat was uninjured, and returned to it's owner safely. They MUST have nine lives..
