What did you do to your mini today?

armrest sliding open
Got sick of my armrest sliding open all the time. I see a couple posts her about use velco, but I wanted the same smooth sliding action, but with a little snap at the close. So I have some extra rare-earth magnets around and came up with what you see in the picture. I used JB weld to hold the magnets in place, so it looks a tad messy, but the mess is on the inside of the armrest. I drill out 2 circular hole in the plastic bottom of the armrest sliding pad for 1 seven millimeter (diameter) magnet in each cut out. Then use 2 of the the same stacked on each side down in the armrest. Now when my top slide pad gets about 5 to 10 mills away from the armrest magnets it shuts closed with a soft snap, and stays close.

they make a huge difference and look great
Thanks!
This looks like a great idea. I've noticed mine seems to be wearing and sliding open a little too easily lately so I may have to do this myself in the near future.
Thanks!

MiniRy - careful sliding an iPod or phone into your armrest with those magnets nearby... great idea on the closure...when I read it I read "...when my top slide pad gets about 5 to 10 miles away from the armrest magnets it shuts closed..." powerful friggin' magnets!

Naked Now
Decided to go naked. Removed all stripes
and Cooper S on the boot.
Going for a more refined look and may look
better next week after it's lowered.
Boot had stripes also. Just seemed too much.
Quick question, anyone ever seen a Sparkling
Silver with an orange sport strip down the middle?
If I ever decide to go back to stripes I was thinking
of it. ???

Had a brain-fart today. :( I let the clutch out abruptly without taking the car out of gear first. With an open-topped cup of coffee in my hand. Half the cup jumped out; most of that landed on me (whew!) but a good bit of it landed on the wheel, on the dash, on the door panel...
Ugh.
At least I didn't hit anything!!

tires
Be aware of the speedo change going to a larger diameter tire also. 205/55/15 is almost an exact fit to the oem 175/65/15 (65 mph vs 64.8). At 65 mph on the 175/65/15 you are going 67.9 with the 205/60/15 tires. Hope this helps.
When it came time to replace the OEM tires on my R56 Hardtop, I was looking for good value along with improved handling. I ended up going three (3) tire sizes larger to 205/60-15 from Yokohama purchased through Tire Rack. I not only saved roughly $300 as compared to the original Conti tires but I believe the Cooper handles a bit better!
On the plus side, the new tires increases the ground clearance by about 3/8" which means I no longer scrub the front air dam on the driveway. On the down side, I lost about 2mpg but, the added rubber on the road makes the Mini turn in much nicer!
There is no interference in the wheel wells or on the suspension and i don't regret the improvement at all! The Mini dealer will not sell you this tire so it is better to look to an outside source!
Happy Motoring!

Where you painting in your bare feet again? The wife is going to be mad that you are using her kitchen knives in the garage.
Looks good though, much better than that yucky chrome BMW/MINI likes to give us... When will they learn.
