I hadn't heard of oil drain valves before. Now that I've looked into them I have to have one. I was looking into top side oil pumps but this looks like a much better solution.

After a couple of weeks on Brooklyn streets, Fresh Butter was completely covered in squashed berries and various fall organic matter. I try not to park under trees, but after 15 minutes of driving around it's hard to turn down an available spot. It's too cold for a hand wash, so the brushless car wash had to suffice. I did stop by the park afterwards to QD the areas that were still stained and to do a Hydro spray/buff and some Clarity window cleaning. MUCH better, but not as good as when I hand wash.

The valve works great , saves A lot of time and makes the job simple and clean. Well worth the 22 bucks.

Spent about 5 hours detailing my new BRG MCS today. I did:
Washed my car with Gold Class
Vacuumed the interior.
Prima Neroed the interior and exterior plastics
I used Prima Epic wax and will leave it in my garage for overnight before buffing it. (Thanks for the advice, Rick from ShowCarSupplies.com).
Then use Prima Banana Gloss after buffing.
It should look stellar tomorrow, I'm very excited to see the outcome.
By the way, thanks for all the goodies, Rick!

I found this web site: http://www.lubricationspecialist.com...=0&curr_page=2

For a 2003 you'll want the F-106 valve. I need the F-108 for my 2007. You can also google "oil drain valve" to look for more options but the one I posted had the best price I could find. The others were 1 or 2 bucks more.

I haven't ordered one yet since I just changed my oil and won't be needing the valve for a while. Then just one more valveless oil change and I'll install the valve.

I went ahead and ordered the oil change valve so I won't have to go find it again when I change my oil. Probably won't need it for 4 or 5 months but I'll be ready.

I am in the middle of buying a 2-car garage for my MINI (with attached living space for me... ), so I'll hold off for a month or two before I get mine, but I have the link saved in delicious so I can find it again in an instant when the time comes....

Thanks again!

This is more of a future item. My son, the mechanic, has informed me that he recently purchased a belt tensioner tool, and just ordered a pulley puller.

Now I have no reason not to go to the 15% pulley Just have to decide which one.

Alta or Way.

Alta is 2 piece, steel core with aluminium "pulley". It has massive walls on each side of the pulley to keep the belt on.

Way is steel on steel 2 piece. It has slight walls on each side. But way's package comes with a better tensioner stop (IMHO).

All the others are just knockoffs (not meaning anything shady, the designs are just all the same)

I'm bias, but go with our WMW pulley. I have both ours and the Alta in stock. Our pulley kit is a great deal that will give you everything you need. Feel free to call me with any questions about either and I'll help you out, and we have some good instructions to help you too.

Hey--
I have a question about your brake light pulsar module:

Is it possible to use it with the rear fogs on the early R50/53 tail lights if you use an LED bulb in place of the incandescent bulb that's normally there? I have done the "jumper mod" and put LED bulbs in the rear fog light sockets, and I'd *love* to get them to pulse.

Would you just hook the "harness +" and "light +" to the pulsar and the "harness -" and "light -" to the harness ground?

Thanks!

Dutch

Great idea, but that looks like it's going to hang quite a bit below the oil pan. I'd be nervous as hell that I'd hit some road debris that would knock that thing right off.

I suppose if it was hanging below the bottom of the oil sump, you could tighten it 45º (1/8 turn) past straight down and it would be better shielded from such debris while still draining predictably enough to get a waste oil pan positioned under it in a spill-free manner....

HTH!

Call me tomorrow and I'll see if I can tell you how to wire it to work.

As for the drain valve, I don't recommend them, they can leak or get damaged. And seriously how lazy are we if we can't pull out the drain plug.

I can be seriously lazy. Plus no matter how hard I try I always get some oil on my garage floor, it either splatters out on the waste pan or I have some that runs along the oil pan and then drips on the floor. I guess I'll go back to looking at oil pumps that snake down the dip stick tube. Unless there are any complaints about them also.

Don't think of them as oil stains. Think of them as a lovely patina of battle scars won while saving money, servicing your own car!

You will notice an improvement in bottom end power / torque with the pulley... No more stumble off the line from 1000 - 2000 rpm...

I put in 3/4 of a tank of pure gas (0% ethanol), 93 octane. Going for a run w/a bunch of other MINIs to a campground near here for Bonfire Night in a couple hours. Can't wait!
