OK, I might have a problem.... I just bought ANOTHER MC40 (#81 I think) needs work, but it has the JCW engine kit but won't be a driver for a month or two, lots to do.

Wouldn't want to drive it right now anyway.
I had to drive my car to work because my fiance's car had a flat tire this morning.
My Christmas gift for Mini arrived late. Somehow the reindeer sled must have gotten stuck in Suzhou. It arrived after over a month. As you would giving something to a minor (he is just 13 years old), you want to to make sure it is safe.
Like they say and it is true, the value of the gift is not about how much or little ($2.74) it costs but is all about the heart of the giver.

Do u have a link to the source? I could use one at that price. tia,Sani
Pnw - Looks like the plastic one above you got from overseas? Or is it metal shaft painted black?
The construction is identical to the genuine MINI one as far as I can see. Yellow handle and tip over-moded to the black plastic rod. It is very easy for some to mock a $2.74 dipstick shipped from China when MINI USA one is $25.
I have little doubt these eBay dipsticks are made in a Chinese OEM factory. China have been building domestic cars a long time and guess where they go source the dipsticks? Domestic OEM suppliers or a supplier in Deutschland?
A dipstick is a dipstick be it use with a honeybucket or the oil sump that hold the Mini's lifeblood.
I should mention that the dipstick was shipped coiled up in a 6x6 black plastic bag. When uncoiled, it retained no memory so goes show it is not a POS dipstick.

Same exact length as original? That would be the most worrying part of buying aftermarket. I wouldn't want to chance anything regarding oil, especially thirsty R53s.

I would agree.
I don't doubt that it's up to OE spec as it is most likely sourced from China in the first place.
At least there is a dipstick, from what I understand the later models don't have one?
I was horrified when I first came across this problem (I don't have a MINI yet) when I saw that they could break/shatter (fiberglass?) and also wondered why the engineers chose such a labyrinthlike pathway?
Simple stuff gone wrong due to over-complicated design is a pet-peeve of mine.

Follow the link that I provided in my first post on this subject my friend. I didn't want to burden the members of this general thread with details.
While I am at it, just because I took the trouble in comparing the two side by side, do think what if the length of the precious Deutschland made OEM one shrunk after 13 years in service?

Ok, thanks , thought maybe you found a new metal one in black coating.
Always wanted something like this. Found a few surplus left on ebay and grabbed one. Do I really need it? No, but it saves me a few moments of balancing my tires and it's now pretty cheap.
Bought an ultra racing rear strut brace off a NAM member! Chassis upgrades are the only stuff I can justify doing to Benni. Engine performance upgrades seems pointless, to me, since it constantly has issues.

Nice! How was the install? Any pictures? Driving impressions after installation?
Hey so I wanna do a muffler delete on my r56 Cooper s. I want to cut out the muffler and then weld in a y pipe. Does anyone know the correct size and length for a y pipe? Thanks
Installed the ultra racing rear brace last night, had to trim a piece of the liner on both sides to get it to go on. The rest was easy, well besides being 6'3" and trying to sit on the folded back seats.
