1st of 5 cold mornings, so I put on the
winter tires and changed the rear sway
bar from the middle to the soft setting.
Also made the front Koni Sports 1/4
turn softer for winter.

Replaced battery yesterday. Liqui moly engine flushed this morning, Then Liqui Moly 5w-40 and motor oil saver went back in with OEM filter. Liqui Moly jectron in full tank of Shell 93. Should be good for winter. Don’t see driving more than 5k until March.

Full paint job

After 18 years and 140k miles I decided to get a full respray. Took everything off/out that i could. had the stripe sprayed on at the same time as went black with to roof instead of Aspen White. Now slowly putting everything back together. As it was apart I also took the carpet it to jet wash it, and dismantled the seats to fully clean and grease the runners. Discovered the one speaker had blown, so new speakers and amp are currently going in, but I only have 30 minutes a day only lunch break to get it done.
You wouldn't believe how faded the paint was. Took the front window strips off and you could see the original colour underneath.

Sorry, wrong state! It's really not as bad as it looks. Just take your time and keep things organized.

Finally had a few hours to myself so I painted my mirror caps. Thank goodness the place I ordered from online did a great job matching the color.

It's been way too long since there was an update on my R53. Its been unloved with two other projects on the go. So I've decided to start tidying up a few things, starting with the G-Wing. Now you may be thinking I already have one, and yes I do, however I have a pre-production one fitted to the car as I was helping the guys out doing some testing of the last lot of revisions they were doing a few years ago when I was building the R53. Although it looked the part in pictures it wasn't the best close up as it wasn't the finished article.

So I decided to order a production version of the Orranje G-Wing direct from Oli. I know there are other versions out there from other companies that may be cheaper, but trust me Orranje were the original creators of the GP rep wing and you can see the improvements they have made over the years to refine it to the product it is today.

I decided to do an unboxing video so if you are interested in one, you can see exactly what you get from Orranje and the quality of not only the parts but the fitting kit etc. There will be a follow up fitting video this weekend for those interested too:

Took the car in for a strange battery drain ('04 Mini). It was drawing about 1.5 amps per 30 minutes. After several days they unplugged fuses while they watched the meter and narrowed it down to fuses F24 and F27 - radio and security. After plugging the fuses back in the dropped stopped. It's as if pulling the fuses reset something. Anyone have an idea what happened?

One of those modules probably wasn't going to sleep (powering down) as it should have. Pulling the fuse took away the power and reset the modules. You may have been able to accomplish the same thing by disconnecting the battery.

Picked up new windshield cowl from ECS last Friday, showed up on Saturday, it was in stock and I’m like 4 hrs away. Installed it yesterday, took about an hour to do. So hopefully that takes care of the water inside, also scored a pair of car ports, at our complex side by side, so even more protection. While I had the cowl off, battery terminals all good, just swapped the battery a couple weeks ago so I knew I’d be fine, and topped off brake fluid, which shouldn’t have been needed. So jack her up rotate tires and check all bleed screws and make sure they are tight. No evidence of a leak so will need to keep an eye on it.

I had taken out the battery several times, even replacing it but the drain was still there until the fuse was pulled. But you make a good point - pulling the fuse probably caused a module or something to power down.

Replaced a couple MINI parts and replaced old upgrades that had 160K mi.

234K miles and change......

All started with a nagging infrequent P1498 code for fuel system. BMW computer tested the fuel evac system and found no issues, smoke test negative. Once the clamps arrive from Way, I'll button it up and see how she runs. It will be due for a SC service soon, will replace that dumb *** POS designed lower duct horn with green jam gasket at that time too....That could be it too.

Removed/Replaced:
13517515136 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Vacuum pipe
13517515137 - Bypass Valve Vacuum pipe
13907515434 - Fuel Tank Breather line
13547509045 - Gasket, throttle body
17511516833 - Rubber boot clamp (2) ( Still coming USPS from Way Motorworks-Nice used set )
17511516834 - Rubber boot clamp (2) ( Still coming USPS from Way Motorworks-Nice used set )
17511516835 - Rubber boot clamp (2) ( Still coming USPS from Way Motorworks-Nice used set )
17511516836 - Rubber boot clamp (2) ( Still coming USPS from Way Motorworks-Nice used set )
17511524319 - Metal Gasket for Left Side Aluminum Air Duct ( Was missing, lots of blow-by top of Intercooler horn )
11427512446 - MINI OIL FILTER with O-ring

NGK Iridium Spark Plugs Racing 2-Step Colder - BKR8EIX # 2668 ( gapped to .045 )
Detroit Tuned By Pass Valve - SKU #DT-BPV - (Other one had no issues I'm aware of but in lieu of just relacing gasket did whole assy )
Pipercross Performance Foam Air Filter - JCW # PX1875
Full Oil Change - Amsoil 0W-40 Full Syn. 5 qts
Cleaned GP intercooler with CRC Declorinated Brake Cleaner

Had lots of fun today. Started off with snapping both strut pinch bolts. Then both speed sensors broke off. Then I find my right inner cv boot ripped. Then to top it off my new struts are running late. My new strut plates are mia. So I had to reorder them. Then right front bearing hub had some play. Had to order those. So I went too a salvage yard an got two knuckles.
I hate my life.

Just be glad these cars are becoming more prevalent in the salvage yards these days!

The big issue is I'm in Louisiana now visiting from Florida. I planned ahead an brought my tools. In Panama city Beach we lost the 2 salvage yards we had here after hurricane Michael. Was lucky 2 yards here has some stock.

Yeah it sucks we lost our salvage yards. I did find this place in Pensacola. They list several mini coopers in stock.
