The head on the turbo motor is a crossflow design, the supercharged engine wasn't, so that could have actually made the packaging easier too...
My R53 has a crossflow head. I believe they are all that way or possibly mine is just an odd anomaly.

I love my supercharged iron lump engine. I also like the turbo Peugeot engine. If they ever get the cold start rattle fixed or do a redesign that doesn't rattle I'll be buying one in a couple of years.

I agree. Loud blowoff valves are for ricers and teeny-boppers.

If there are any Prince owners here who would like to add this cheesy racket to your supercharger whine, here's your solution:

They have... It's called better QC from the chain manufacturer. Haven't heard late 2010s having this problem.

The timing change rattle has been fixed (at least on my '07); not sure that they have fully fixed the ice block problem, which I have had. Ya think BMW rushed the design or they didn't think there is cold weather in the US? As for BOV's, leave it stock and enjoy listening to the turbo spool up

At Lime Rock Park in CT, I used to watch Paul Newman run the track in his 911 Turbo Porsche. Loved hearing that BOV at turn 1 and 2 and watching the flames shoot out Damn car road that track flat and like it was on rails....

Old PL Newman always drove the best cars. I got to see him once at Nelson ledges at an SCCA national race early in his career driving a Datsun 510. He was a very skilled driver & a great human being.

Back on topic... BOV

Best blow off valve sound I've ever heard came from John Buffum's Quattro charging hard down a rally stage. Great memories!

Thanks for the vids. That reminded me it was not just the BOV, but also that 5 Cly exhaust note. Standing next to a stage in Pennsylvania at 3 in the morning I could hear Buffum coming from miles away. Great times for sure!
