New California License Plates "Legacy Plates

I was renewing my registration online yesterday and noticed that the DMV is looking to implement this "Legacy Plate" program HERE. I guess if they get enough pre-orders 7,500+ then they will start to produce them like they do vanity plates here in CA. I thought it was a pretty neat idea, especially for vintage cars that are missing the era correct plate. But it says the plates can be used for any year car! I did this photoshop, what do you guys think? I like the black best I think. A unique LEGAL option for the license plate instead of a euro plate, I had a euro plate but got a couple tickets so I took it off

I like the black background with yellow letters.
I went with the new Lake Tahoe plates, and my wife the whale tale plates.

The grille is the standard non-S one.

I thought it didn't matter. If it was a California plate they would register to any car regardless of what year it came out. Plus this is my favorite if I ever considered registering my car in California(which will be never)

Black w/yellow letters gets my vote. I agree with Porthos - the sunset plate was cool. Don't understand why they went with the current boring ones. :/

You can if you still have an old plate that is active, however most people don't have them. I have a set of original black and yellow that were not active, and the DMV would not let me change them to a car. This is a cool way to get a vintage plate on your new car. I pre-ordered black with yellow, impatiently waiting for them to start printing...

Of course, I should also state that though I live in Cali I will never and I mean never register a car out here. Too expensive and smog can go suck it.

The blue and yellow plates may never be issued. 7500 must be ordered before Jan. 1, 2015. Only the black plate is looking likely at 7103 ordered. Blue and yellow are at 1413 and 1755.

I thought all would be made, looks like I misread it. Or they changed it from when I ordered mine a few months ago.

It's all cool, but I, for one, refuse to pay the extra tariff for personalized or legacy plates. If I was gonna do it, it would be the blue and yellow plates. But for that money, I'd rather buy a good bottle of single malt.

While i do like the look and memories of these plates, in my opinion the current plates seem to flow better with the color scheme of your car. I was thinking about ordering a legacy plate myself(the blue/yellow in particular because it just reminds me of childhood), but I also have a white silver/black mini and just think the current plate seems to be the most unobtrusive with the color of the car.

with that said though, the black w/yellow doesn't look bad on your car, i just think the current ones flow better colorwise, but then again, it could just be cause thats what i am used to seeing.
