Left moon roof open in the rain...

I had left the moon roof open one day and while I was away, there was a sudden cloud burst. Since this time the keyless entry on the key doesn't work. I checked the spare key just in case and got the same result. Other components seem to be functioning normally.

I have a 2005 Mini Cooper.

What is likely broken, and what will it likely cost to fix? Also, under the circumstances would any other system be likely to have a problem?

Thanks.

The body control module (BCM) is behind the passenger kick panel on the floor. Get the BCM wet and all kinds of weird electrical stuff can happen. Did your passenger side carpet get soaked? If so, you may want to pull off the panel and use a hair dryer to dry that area out.

The receiver for the remote is in the rear view mirror. Did this get wet?

That could be the problem then. You might be able to find a used one, I do believe that you'll need to get it reprogrammed at the dealer.

When these cars were new....
Folks did this regularly....
Kind a made the car a "flood car".... Anything electrical can corrode....the plugs on the ends of wires when the bcm plugs in and the electrical/fuse box is the main parts...
Dry it out asap....big fan...lots of air...a few HOURS with a wet/dry shop vac.....

And yes....the bcm controls all stuff...blinkers, etc.... So it is a BIG thing...dry...dry..dry...
Water gets trapped and makes corrosion....best take it apart and clean/dry it all asap.
Now.
