Double sided tape to stick to plastic dash

Double sided tape to stick to plastic dash
I have an Escort radar detector and the remote direct wire kit. This gives me a mute button I can mount remotely. I have tried a couple of things to stick it to the side of my center console (plastic) and it does not seem to want to stay stuck.
I seem to remember some 3M product people use to stick mounts to their dash for phones etc and was wondering what that was. Ideas?

This:
Although I'm pretty sure I paid quite a bit less locally.

You must CLEAN the surface BEFORE you stick the tape....
Most dash wipes have slick stuff that stops tape from sticking...
Clean the area with a good solvent...100% alcohol is usually fine...just do the spot where the tape will be stuck....let dry, then apply. Most body parts that are not welded or screwed on, like rear wings/spoilers come from the factory with this foam tape....so yes, it is strong, even lifetime...
Just use a piece of dental floss or monofilament fishing line to cut the foam in half between the dash and the item, then clean with solvent and lots of rubbing when you remove it.....

I use this stuff for things that I don't want to have to remove...ever. But it will come off if you really need it to with a blade and some Goo B Gone.

So far I have tried three different 3M double sided tapes; the standard foam stuff sold at craft stores, the stuff I used previously to put emblems back on a different car that stuck for years, and the super strength VHB kind I found on the shelf at Sears.
Every time the surface was cleaned excessively with 91% alcohol and dried with a clean, lint free towel. The VHB lasted the longest at a couple of days. It just falls off the center console while remaining FIRMLY affixed to the button I am trying to mount.
I have now gone to commercial velcro and although there is some give when you press the button, it has remained on for a week and shows no sign of releasing anytime soon.
I have no idea what is going on but maybe this will help someone else with a 2015 Countryman who wants to stick something to their center console.
