newbie needs help bad

just bought a 2008 mini base it has 30,000 miles manual and has the dreaded timing chain issue. other than that the car is perfect and well taken care of. questions are

should i buy a reman engine and if so where do i go for the best reman on the marketer i have 35 years experience turning wrenches for a living am i better off rebuilding myself? do they have aftermarket parts that are better than the OEM parts and is there a fix for the timing chain issue to prevent it from happening again? i bought the car for my grand daughter and want to make sure it is reliable for her sorry for the long rant but just thought i would rely on the experts on this forum so i only have to rebuild once.

Thanks and i truly appreciate all of the advice i can get.

Is the chain broke or just making noise? If the car is running and making noise just replace the timing chain kit. (we have if you need)

If there is actual engine damage then it is more cost effective to go with a new reman. They come with a 2yr warranty and much easier and faster to just replace. If you price out all the parts to do a full rebuild and time it cost almost as much if not more.
Please email me your Vin if you want an engine quote.

I did not think the 2008 Base model motor had that issue, at least not in statistically great numbers. This was diagnosed professionally by an experienced Mini mechanic? Sure, you have wrenched for a while, but perhaps a second opinion might be in order on this one. Maybe it was just low on oil for too long and the oil passages to the tensioner became coked up? In any case, if it still runs the chain tensioner can be replaced, imo. The valves, etc are a bit odd in this model, would not want to try to rebuild it over a reman unit.
