I've owned MINIs in Florida for 10 years and have had no problem with what's recommended in the owner's manual.

Of personal choice, in my MINIs, I tend to use Mobile 1, 0W-40 European which I get at Wally World

recently there have been posts that this oil is no longer BMW/MINI approved. I take these comments with a grain of salt as there are two oil recommendations present ON the motor of my 15 Roadster ... one says use MINI motor oil, and another says MINI recommends Castrol .... posts have said the oil didn't change, but the test process did ....

full synthetic (if you plan to follow computer generated change intervals) and what's in the book

got no book?

oil

I went with Mobil 1 5W30 and will change every 5000 miles, I usually go 10,000 miles put since I punish the Copper S it will get changed at 5,000 miles. This car is such a blast to drive, it is a great weekend toy---I am 67 and feel like I am 25 when I am rowing through the gears. After many years of p/u's etc it is fun to go and have fun driving again. I can see my tire bill going through the roof!!!!!!

Welcome to NAM and the world of MINI Motoring! Just picked up an '04 MCS myself and just love it. How's the mileage, and did prior owners make any mods?
Please post some pix when you have the chance.

Here's a handy maintenance and service guide for your enjoyment. It's good to make sure everything is spot on before making additional mods. My R53 came with a cold air intake so I didn't need to install one. Next was the Sprint Booster, which is great and absolutely ended throttle lag.
