2009 JCW. Buying concerns and questions.
I'm looking into buying a 2009 mini JCW. However, after doing some research, I have some concerns.
I've seen that the "S" model has well known issues regarding oil, timing belt, turbo, ect. I'm wondering if this is common to the JCW model as well. According to what I have read, the JCW supposedly has a better built engine, trans, and clutch. I've seen many mention on here, as well as reddit, that the 2009 mini is something to be avoided. There are very few mentions of that year's JCW model though.
The stealership I'm looking at has a 2009 mini JCW with the upgraded trim package. Price is steep at $13,900 with 85,000 miles on it but he assures me he can get it down another 1,500 or so.
Anyway, if the car is in good condition, is this something I should consider or should I avoid it like the plague. There are VERY few minis in my area. This one is a 90min drive.
Thanks for your insights.

You'll want to either request some proof of proper service or for it to come with some sort of warranty. The S engines didn't get any better until the N18 which was introduced in 2011, the JCW N14 is still susceptible to the same failures as the non JCW N14 cars.
Rule of thumb on buying used cars from a dealership that isn't the manufacturer: it was traded in for a reason. Whether the reason be they needed more space, or the car was 2 days away from certain doom.

I would hesitate on this model due to the engine design problems. Many have had fixes done and are very happy, others not so much. You might want to keep shopping.
Listed below are the years you should probably avoid:
