Leak in the Main Seal

Hi everyone. I came into a secondhand manual 2007 Mini Cooper S last summer, and noticed it was leaking oil when I parked it in the garage. When I took it to my mechanic, he said the problem is in the main seal on the right hand side of the car - and that it was an expensive job more for the labor cost than anything else. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix the leak if I were to do it myself.

Do you mean the front crank seal? If so that is a really quick job to do and there are no special tools required.

Seal is about $40 and the job should only take 30-45 minutes at any reputable shop.
