2019 Hardtop
#2
My wife and I stopped by our local MINI dealer in early February to check on the possibility of ordering a 2019 MINI Hardtop. The configurator was so new at the dealer only one person was familiar with how to use it. For fun we designed and built a car.
Pepper White, Black Roof, fully-loaded "Iconic" package ($8,000), Chesterfield Brown Leather with matching color line, Rail Spoke (Series 7) Wheels, manual transmission. The only extra-cost option was roof rails ($250). MSRP was around $30,000 USD. The Iconic package really does include almost every option and has choices within the package of color line and steering wheel as well as other no-cost choices.
The dealer said they were placing orders and would order the car for their inventory and call us when it arrived.
Just received an email that it is built and due to be delivered April 24-28.

My 2019 JCW Hardtop was ordered 3/10. Schedule for production 4/20 with a completion date of 4/25. I expect to see the car in early June if all goes well. I knew exactly what I wanted when I ordered and the MA had already ordered a few previously. She was very knowledgeable through the whole process. It did take me two hours to decide on a color.

color was our biggest issue. We've had all Pepper White/White except for the one Countryman where we had to do black w/white due to lack of PW in that line. But when it came to this one, I had assumed we'd do PW/ red JCW classic roof, and my lovely wife challenged us to move away from the white, so I didn't know what to do. She was pushing hard on Volcanic Orange but I had doubts. We looked hard at white silver (I saw the first White Silver to arrive at MINI of SF (clubman) years ago, literally roll off the truck. We all saw it for the first time (me, the sales guys) and it was very impressive. Anyway, I settled on Moonwalk Grey with red roof... because it sort of evokes the GP but also has that 'wet concrete' look...

Thank you. The build was heavily influenced by the Series Seven. We're going to add the silver/brown Seven stripes from the parts department.

My wife and I prefer an interior color other than black, not sure why that is, but it is. Maybe from growing up with cars from the 1970s and 1980s where interior colors were all the rage. We contemplated the tan interior with Chili Red exterior, similar to a 1970s Chevelle we once owned but we thought the red looked a little too sporty for our age and profession. The Pepper White seems like it will hold up well to the elements and be easy to touch-up or repair in the future.
