Mini with over 100k miles

09 clubman s purchased at 137,000
i have had to replace the clutch and water pipe due to age. Dragon accident cost me a new intercooler, aux water pump, radiator, core support. This car is totally worth whatever needs to be done, it’s way too much fun to drive, and I’m sitting at 164,000 now. Will be 2 years of ownership end of November this year.

I purchased 2006 MCS R52 convertible with over 200k on it about 4 years ago. It is being used as a summer only occasional driver, only putting on a few thousand miles a year. I had to do quite a bit of work to it but knew that going in. New clutch, engine mounts, and renewing many suspension components where needed. To date I've done all the work on it myself. I would not have bought it if I needed to pay someone to do the work. Nor would I have bought it if it was intended to be a daily driver. I have Hondas for daily drivers.

Both my 2005 R53 and 2010 R57S had about 160k miles on them when I got them. They are essentially daily drivers for me (with my wifes sensible car as a backup if needed) and so far over three years and about 20k miles Ive had to pay for a rebuild on a manual transmission on the R53 (clutch done at same time while it was there), but really thats the only outside expert service its needed. I have replaced a couple of worn CV joints and done brakes and fixed some minor cosmetic things and a couple of window regulators myself, but they have generally (so far) been a lot less trouble than anticipated, and a whole lot of fun to drive considering the minimal amount I have paid to buy them and keep them going.
The R57 I have had for only a month or so. I have not had to do anything much with it. As with all things Mini though, that could change rapidly, and your millage may vary! It helps to be a little handy and be interested in doing some jobs yourself to keep costs down, and with the help of like minded friends that can become part of the fun of ownership. The real fun though is the driving experience.

Thanks for replies (and sorry for the lag)
I'm off the hunt for the time being, but will be looking again to buy in Oct.
My budget will be limited but will be looking at 2013 models or later. I do see a few for around the $9-10,000 mark, but they are often over 100,000 miles. That doesn't seem like a great deal, since with that kind of milage I imagine it would need some serious work. But I don't know, as I have no previous experience with these cars.
