how do I check if my timing chain has an issue or not? (photos)

Hi all, I'm in the process of replacing various things, and already have the intake off and the valve cover off, so I see my timing chain - but is there a simple way to check if the chain is not "stretched"?

Of course if the chain needs replacement I would like to go ahead and do it now, but also I don't want to do it if I'm within acceptable limits.

I do see half of the guide cover broke off on top (didn't see any of those parts floating around anywhere).

The proper way to check for chain stretch is with the special tool, the one on the left in this picture:

The tool is installed in place of the tensioner, then you remove and measure the tool length.

I figured I might as well change the chain, so I ordered this kit from detroittuner: https://www.detroittuned.com/mini-n14-timing-chain-kit/

It's a cryotreated chain so hopefully it will last the rest of the car's life. I guess I got confused with the terminology because I saw a video showing a piece called the "pretensioner" to test the chain wear.

The “pretensioner” is that tool. If you haven’t already, be sure to purchase the full timing chain tool set.

Thanks @njaremka I did purchase that too. I'm wondering now if I might as well do the head gasket at this point - how much more work is it? I haven't found a video online showing the full process for S cars, only the non turbo.
