2013 GP Facts and Myths
Post your questions and comments here:
There were a few things that I wondered about before actually picking the car up and some that I found out after...I always figured that since this is a JCW GP- it would come with all/most of the standard JCW options with a few more exclusive GP parts... this thread can help sort out fact from fiction. I am sure others have questions and comments so please post them as well.
-No cd changer/secret storage box... first thing I went to do was depress the fascia panel in the top secret location... nothing happened... tried again- nothing. Ordered one already.
-No "GP" button next to sport button. my brochure showed a "GP" button there but it's not. but when depressed the lcd screen displays "GP Mode" which is cool.
-No armrest. wasn't surprised on this one as no spy shots depict it being in there- Didn't know how much I missed "resting" my arm there until it was gone... I ordered one already.
-Non-retractable mirrors. A feature that I hardly used when it was available and was cool when I did. I liked seeing them retract in like landing gear... I can live without them but wish they were installed.
-No JCW logo on the exhaust tips. not a necessity but would have been a nice touch seeing the logo poking out that fine diffuser...
-No rear fog light/switch. Again it's one of those things that I didn't think that I would miss since I never really used them. I just dont like that vacant spot on the switch panel- especially when the lights are on- Ordered both from WMW.
-No compass in the rearview mirror. No biggie but thought it would be there.
-Engine aerodynamic undertray is there.
-I was able to receive the car without the numbered decals applied- got a nice 3 page overkill instruction manual on how and where to place them if/when the time comes.
-The dash trim is accented in a matte silver/nickle as opposed to chrome or black- looks nice and I think is exclusive.
-The owners manual does come with a GP specific supplementary booklet. not much different than the brochure but cool nonetheless.
that's all I got for now...

Also the Exhaust is NOT the standard JCW Stage 2 exhaust. The GP has the Stage 2 rear muffler, but the front pipe is the same as a standard Cooper S. The normal Stage 2 JCW just has a large resonator and no second cat.
Doesn't matter as it will be gone soon.

Now you have me questioning myself! - Will come back and edit this as soon as I find out you're likely right :P
Edit: Definitely always turned on. Tim is right

So whats the deal with the exhaust being so "gnarly sounding" as another post mentioned if its not as sporty as a FJCW ? Maybe no rear seat and/or no sound insulation in the back area makes it louder

It IS super loud - some family members mentioned it as well... Good thing the radio turns up pretty loud too!

I'm not at all bothered by the exhaust noise as I am tire noise on certain road surfaces. It's probably the Kumhos but, man, I couldn't hear the radio anymore driving up a rough asphalt street.

Radio package is not as crisp as the Harman Kardon option... Also miss not having the steering wheel radio controls... nor bluetooth.
as others mentioned it is fairly loud inside... the exhaust is only partially the culprit- it is not overly loud nor does it have that aftermarket exhaust "drone" like I have experienced before with other cars... The ambient outside noise is noticeably loud at highway speeds... not bad but is very evident with the radio off.
I also noticed the clutch release is shorter than my 2012 JCW R55...
This car delivers on raw drivability and superb handling. The shifts are smooth and it does indeed burble when I let up on the gas more frequently than the R55. I like everything about it so far and it's only going to get better... Pics to follow soon in another thread of my GP's transformation.

so does the car have less sound deadening insulation? The ECU tune wouldn't make it any louder. Maybe the gray paint is a louder sounding color
