What material are the exhaust tips on the GP2

I was thinking about having the exhaust tips powder coated black on my GP2 but, contrary to what i read elsewhere, they are not held on by a screw but welded directly to the muffler. Hence powder coating is not an option.

So i was thinking about polishing them with silver polish.

However when i tried to polish them on my 09 JCW, eventually the coating (whatever it was) started to wear off.

Are the exhaust tips on the GP2 stainless - if so i'm guessing they would polish up nicely.

Thanks in advance!

Try putting a magnet on the tips. If it's regular steel (chrome played) then the magnet will stick. If it's stainless (good stainless) the magnet will not stick.

That being said, I doubt they would weld chromed steel tips to a stainless exhaust.

Thanks for the tip (no pun intended)!

using a strong magnet - sticks weakly to the tips but where the tips taper down to the pipes leading into the muffler the magnet doesn't stick to those pipes.

It might be stainless with higher magnetic content. I would just polish the tips with chrome & stainless cleaner such as fitz. Works really well.
