Aloha - coming to Oahu on vacation/Reunion
Mike and I will be coming this Saturday May 31st through June 8th - combined vacation and a school Reunion from the school I graduated from in Subic Bay.
We were stationed in Hawaii a few years after we left Subic, but I know things have changed a lot since then and Mike has never been to Hawaii. We will be on Oahu staying at the Hale Koa - we're coming 4 days before the Reunion so we can play a bit.
Besides all the normal tourist stuff that Mike wants to do, we also want to hike to one of the waterfalls and snorkel the same day. Which waterfall is the best one to hike to and is there a place to rent snorkel gear close by?
I have friends from school that still live there so they've given us some suggestions on places to eat and some I still remember going to when we lived there.
Any suggestions on anything is greatly appreciated...
Oh - and how far is the MINI dealership from where we are staying?
Thanks!
Donna

Aloha Donna and Mike,
Just what we need here on Oahu..... More DCMM ex-pats!
Waimea Falls Park is your probably your best for hiking and waterfalls. From there its a short jump to Sharks Cove or Three Tables, both of which have nice snorkeling (depending on the tides and weather). Gear can be rented from most of the surf/dive shops dotting the landscape up there. They would also be an excellent source for up to date info and recommendations based on local conditions. Personally, I'd avoid snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. Its usually overcrowded and overrated....
If you really are desperate and going through withdrawal, there are MINI's for rent on Oahu click here. They're pretty expensive... you can tell them you were referred by the HMMC. I don't know if will help or not...
The dealership is at 777 Kapiolani Blvd, Honolulu. Its probably a 10 min drive from the hotel. Its right in line if you were to do a visit or drive by of the Iolani Palace or on the way to the Aloha Tower.
If you want to, and have some time, I'd be glad to buy you guys a drink and play host for a few hours. I didn't get a chance to meet you last year when you came to DC, but everyone speaks very highly of you guys.
I'll pm my phone number to you if you wish to call.

Just let us know when the next trip comes up.
We will try to keep the volcano under control while you are gone.
