Saw this thread http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48629 and was thinking about getting a spare too. Anybody do this? I was wondering if it's possible to get a spare tire from our dealer with the part number given in the link.

I spoke to people who have had flats and tried to get the tire from the dealer. After some research, they decided to get the tire from Tire Rack as it was @ $80 cheaper than the dealer, including shipping.

EDIT: Oops, didn't look at the post! No space for the spare. Just get the M Mobility kit, or Daiei has a kit with some green goop and a compressor for @ $40.

beast,

Did you get to check out the link? This guy has a pretty good idea about keeping a spare in the boot. I wouldn't always keep it there but would like the option of carrying one when I need to go on the other side of the island.

I do have a mobility kit per se (tried to duplicate the kit that was in the M3).

I did look at the link, but the spare will take up precious room in the boot. Plus, it'll make your DSC light go on as there are circumferential differences between the stock and spare tires.

Beast,

Yes it will take up precious space but this is only for times when I don't want to be caught without a spare. It's OK if the light goes on too as it would be an emergency situation, and I would be crawling home with three S03s and one spare on.

Yes, but guess where your car will be towed.

Yes, then it can sit right next to mine! I got a flat on the way home this afternoon....luckily I was only a few blocks from the dealership. Hopefully, it'll be ready for pick up tomorrow morning. Does my MC have a spare? I didn't even think about that!

I'm not carrying a spare in the boot. I already have a subwoofer and espresso maker back there.

If I get a flat I can call MINI roadside assistance on my Cell phone or AAA since I have the plus program.
I'll tow to my house since I have spare sets of wheels there.

Does an MC have a spare?- yes some do- I should have checked your MC before you took it in. shucks.
My brain was asleep. But you have the runflats so I think there is no spare-I might be wrong.

Sorry to hear about your dead tire.

Wow you guys don't mind waiting around for the tow huh? I haven't had a chance to use the MINI roadside assistance but I had to use the BMW one in CALI in the past and it wasn't worth the wait for a flat. I too have AAA but I would rather slap a tire on and be on my way. Is the service that fast here in HI? Plus, as Beast said, I don't really need having my car towed to the dealer for a flat.

DaKineMINI,

I couldn't open the link to see the part number , but I purchased a spare tire from Classic MINI in Ohio when I took delivery of my 04 MCS, intending to have it available for long trips in the MCS after I changed over to non-runflat tires.

The part number was 36-10-1-508-367 and the cost was $78.60. Don't know what shipping would be from Ohio to Hawaii. Possibly buying it at your dealer would be cheaper overall.

Don't forget to get your BMWCCA discount. Pacific BMW is supposed to have good internet prices.

If the spare tire is meant for the 15 or 16" rims of an MC does it still safely work with the 17" wheels (as a fix for one flat) of an MCS?

I thought I read somewhere that you are not supposed to mix rims of different sizes. Don't you suspect that tire diameter might be different? I know some of us don't have the stock 205/45-17 tires anymore.
