Blown Turbo and Bad Timing Chain

I moved to Oahu about a year ago and since have started haveing a few problems with my 07 Cooper S. I was getting the cold start rattle from the timing chain so I took it to the Mini dealer and they informed me that not only did I have a timing chain that needed to be replaced, but I also had a blown turbo. the quoted me about $4K for each job, a total of $8K! Yikes! I am looking for some help/ guidence. Is there another place on island that would do the work for less? could I do the work myself? (atleast the turbo)

If you have any information or guidence I would LOVE ur help!

You could try the salvage yards.

My white 2008 Mini MCS was just put in the salvage yard in Oahu a couple of weeks ago but it has a great turbo and engine. It got nailed in the rear drivers wheel by a sleeping driver from the opposite direction two weeks ago and that tore the rear suspension from the frame. But there is no damage to the front of the car. You can look for it at the salvage yards. Perhaps someone can help you with a recommendation for a good local shop.

BTW, Overall, I do not think these cars are that reliable.

By now you are likely out of warranty so no need to use the dealership for repairs or maintenance.

For parts you might check with-
http://www.waymotorworks.com/07-10-c...6/performance/
He can usually get you parts for less than the dealership. Don't buy cheap generic parts, they are often not worth the effort to install.

For labor check with-

Ask for Seth and tell him Brad referred you.
They have done extensive work on my MINI.

Is it the timing chain or just the tensioner? You could probably do the tensioner yourself, but replacing the whole chain wouldnt be something I wold do. Im not sure if anyone in Hawaii tunes minis, but if I were quoted 4k for a new turbo or turbo fix I would get a turbo upgrade (Maybe gt28rs or gt2560) and get a protune.
