hahahahah really? Or is this a joke? Posts on NAM just keep getting funnier and funnier.

I can't see why someone would want lights that put out so few lumens? I would hope that you don't do much night driving or atleast only drive on streets that are properly lit.

At 12000k you are putting out very little visible light...Sorry to hear about your bad headlights dude But I do understand....that purple color really makes you look cool

I agree is this a joke, surely no one would waste good money on something that decreases the light output at that range your putting out less light than if i were to stick some AA batteries to your lights. But its a pretty blue color.

12000k is actually in the purple range. That temperature borders on Ultra-violet light in the spectrum. So you've gone from a temperature bulb that puts out near the color of the sun to a light that puts out as much usable light as a black light (next to none)

Cynical huh?

Just because he (or she) doesn't want to be able to see where there going at night, that's their problem. Maybe they dont drive at night???

To each their own.

To each his own. One of my buddy's did the same thing and ended up taking them out because he couldn't see anything. When a V-dub guy removes bling from his car, you know it's bad

Go for those yellow fog lights. They not only look good but are functional as well Yellow HID's might be pretty cool too.

keep in mind the OP is 16 yrs old. 4-5K is the norm for brightest output. Anything beyond that is for looks, not lighting performance.

I'm near the same age as him....i get the whole "cool factor"

But you can get a very blue beam with 6000k bulbs and be both cool and safer at night. 4000-5000k is the best for light ouput, but the amount of lumens lost in the move to 6000k really isnt that bad and at 6000k you get a very strong blue beam. The further move to 12000k is rediculous.....you're talking about a drastic change in lumens there. Not to mention...blue headlights cool? Alright i guess.....purple headlights cool? Doubtful

Please don't delete this thread. It is a good example of what not to install. 12k Bulbs are not DOT apporoved and for good reason. The lumen output of a 12K bulb is 2/3's that of the 4.3k bulbs our Mini's are supplied with from the factory. While the person that installed them thinks they can see at night just as well it is just not possible due to the lower lumen output. I'm not bashing, I'm not being a hater, I'm just telling straight fact.

I come by my lighting knowledge honestly, not just by spewing stuff I've seen on the net. For years I've worked with lighting aquariums to maximize freshwater plant and saltwater coral lighting systems. There are dozens of peer reviewed articles on the how Kelvin rating and spectrums of various bulbs effect these organisims along with how we humans view objects lit by these bulbs.

The fact remains that bulbs in the 4.3-4.5k range produce the greatest number of visible lumens. As the K rating increases or decreases the lumen output decreases in a logrhythemic scale.

not to mention increased scatter at higher temps. lower kelvin ratings penetrate smoke, fog, rain, snow, etc. 12k will just get bounced around.

7500k still offer good visibilty if you also move up to 100 watts at the same time.
(And no, they do not melt or distort the cans.)

true...you could up the wattage to make up for a temperature raise. Though....imagine the wattage you would have to run to make up for the 12000k bulbs

Sorry for the "bashing"...but i really thought it was a joke. I didn't actually think someone would put 12000k bulbs in by choice.

I'm guessing around 250 watts each.

Don't quit posting. It's the differences between each of us that is the spice of life. Unfortunately, as with any forum, NAM has some busy bodies that know better than the rest of us.

I don't mind the folks that tease or poke fun. Rather, it's the preachers that need to lighten up.

"We have met the enemy and they are us." Thank you, Pogo.
