Carbon fiber mirror

Well from the first time I saw MSFITOY’s car in MC2 I knew that was what I wanted to do with my own car. But the first thing that I noticed that I liked was the f1 style mirrors that Sid(I think that’s his name)had. After doing much research on the internet (Not NAM im a new member). I came up empty handed on where I could get those sweet mirrors. So I went into the local import shop and purchased APR’s universal CF f1 mirrors. After shelling out 160 bucks I had what I was looking for. Now I had the task putting them on my Mini. I went to several local machine shop to have a mounting piece priced out. All of the quotes that I was given were well over 300 bucks! So that’s when I decided to give it a try. I purchased a 1/8 inch think piece of aluminum stock. It was 4 inches wide and foot long. After removing the stock mirrors I decided that I wanted to use the OEM rubber water seal that is at the base of the stock mirrors. I then cut the aluminum stock so that is was slightly longer then rubber seal, using a hammer, steal rolling wheel and heavy duty leather work gloves (very important). I slowly worked the metal until it was the same curvature as the door, then I preceded to shape them with a grinder until they fit in the rubber seal.

This is the finished product.

The mirrors are Craftsquares. There are a few tuner shops that have them imported from Japan. Then will run you anywhere from $450-600.

Nice Job Dan and thanks for the kudos...

I very much like the CS version because it has a slightly larger mirror area (180mm wide) and is fisheyed on both mirrors...just about perfect for the Mini...too bad it costs an arm/leg...

In anycase, great job and do start to carry one of these with you as you'll be spending a lot of time readjusting mirrors due to Bozos who can't seem to watch where they're walking... :impatient

Now all you need is this to complete your picture...

Awesome work I've been playing with the same idea of using the rubber seal to create my own base. You seem to have hit it right on.
