rear seat materials

so i am done making the templates for my rear seat delete kit and im wondering what material i should make it out of. initially i decided to have wood but im thinking about how heavy that it would be. i want something light and strong but i dont know what choice would be best. ie wood carbon fiber what else? and i am on a budget as well

aluminum would be the best of both worlds I guess. I think an important question is if you are looking to cover it? But brushed alum, would look sweet, if done with the right interior.

Make a wood mould, then lay up a fiberglass version. CF is going to be spendy.

I'm thinking foam with a cf cover. I'm also wondering about the material already used in the trunk over the battery box. It seems to be some kind of fabric board.

Ow my neck...

Is a cover necessary? My rear seats are gone, but I left the bottom cushion in. Storage for large things? Never need to transport anything bigger than a tire.

I say fiberglass because it's light, cheap, and quiet (aluminum could reverberate the exhaust).

I would cover the fiberglass in carpet to make it look O.E. while minimizing damage when laden with cargo.

PS. Sell one to me when you're done ; )

i might find a way to get one to you. with my plan there would be 3 compartment areas one behind each seat that opens like the seats folded and then one in the back

I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm trying to be helpful to both somebody who wants a RSD and our club...we're having a raffle on the Schrader kit, I have it in my car and it's top notch.

Again, not trying to steal any DIY thunder, here! The storage idea is cool, scandune, I'll be interested to see it when you get a prototype done!

Also, think about openings to access the rear seat belt "connections" for those who have Schroth's?

Here's the raffle link:

in my design that i have made it would just be another step to access that. since i have supports on both sides of the seatbelts all that would have to be done is cut a hole for them

I would sure like to see one that blended into the rear kick panels where it's raised for the stock seat bottom...

That's the only thing I don't like about the Schrader kit...
