Harness
I have been trying to get as much information on this as i can. I need some help. hehe for a long story short, I have the G-force 5 point racing harness (not installed, im waiting on my seat). It is the Y type. I have seen and heard that it is not allowed in most competion, etc..etc. What i want to know is what is wrong with the y type harness? I have seen alot of harnesses that mount to the car instead of the rollbar. Thats not saying much, but anyway, Its not like im opposed to getting a new harness or anything, i just want to know why they are bad.

It's not so much that a 5point is that bad but the technology has passed them by. Most sanctioning bodies want to see a 6 point harness mounted to the body these days. There has been some confusion regarding the difference between Y-types and V-types. A Y-type harness consists of a single strap of webbing ending in a single attachment point. A V-type harness also has a single end attachment, but it is a continuous length of webbing that loops through the end hardware and over both shoulders, effectively providing a double belt.
Note how the Y Type is a single belt that is attached at the lap then loops around to latch at the lap. In the event of an incident this can slip at the yoke behind the shoulder and allow one to slide free of the harness.
I was told at the PCA DE this past weekend that if you have a harness for DE's they must meet Club Racing specs as of next season.

ok awesome. Thanks Gnat. I was checking out your thread earlier. I have a couple of questions, what is DE's? and secondly. Dont hate me that i keep fighting this, but it just popped in my head. So is it that the 5 point y type s less affective then the factory 3 point (not as safe as the stocker), or is it that its just not as good as the 6 point double strap, etc?
