Sounds like you're talking about the plastic piece inside the **** that holds the **** onto the shaft.
If so, it should have come off with the ****, and you can't buy it separate. I just tried to pop it out of my old ****, felt like it would break before it came out.

Go to.. http://www.realoem.com and put your car info in. You'll need the Build-Date on your door jam for a more accurate depiction and then look for the part you need there. After that you can either go to http://www.pelicanparts.com or to your nearest Dealership for the part you need.

Um....just align the notch back up and smack it back down. It will pop into place. You just popped it off. I do that all the time when I power shift. Nothing is broken or missing...

What's broken? I don't see anything wrong. Seems that UKSUV has the only good explanation so far; you popped the **** off and need to smack it back down.

Hmm, it looks like you can't buy just the stock shifter shaft, you have to buy the mounting cage that goes with it too:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...86&hg=25&fg=05

Look for Condition A; that's the old style [up to 1/2004 build]. The part number is 25117518850
