I live in California and I wanted to know if it's legal to just have Euro plates with the CA license plate numbers on them. A few people are telling me it's legal, but you just have to pay a fee every year. Is this true? or do you have to have both CA and Euro plates?

 

In CA its illegal to have no plate or a plate thats not your CA plate... I have a euro plate and I was warned by a cop for it. you could put your euro plate on and then your CA plate over it, I've seen a lot of people do that.

Yes, it's called a fine.
In CA, both state issued plates must be displayed, front and rear.
However, in 18 years and with 5 cars with no front plates, I only had 1 fix-it ticket
from the CHP.
A Euro plate can be used in conjuction with your state issued plates.

To answer your original question, no, it's not legal to have Euro plates, even with the state issued numbers/letters on them.

Every state has different laws, but my bet would be especially in CA, anything other than standard, state approved CA license plate is illegal.

I live in CA, and I haven't been hassled once about my euro plate. I figure it is worth the risk, and the euro plates look so much better on the MINI.

This is the same in Texas. You have to have a plate on the front and back.

My answer to the original question would be " Have a Euro plate only if you live in Europe"

 

Yeah they want you to run euro plate so they can give you a ticket. Ca wont even let you get a repro plate for a classic. they make them but if you want them they wont send them to Ca. you have to have it sent to a friend that would send it in turn to you. once you have it they couldn't tell. I have thought about putting old style yellow black ca plate on my mini I wounder how long it yould be until I got pulled over for that one and told my mini is of the rong vintage for that plate even though the # matched my registration. Humm

Hey if Arnold ran I would vote for him. but however takes over is going to step into a huge pile that will need to be fixed. not many people will be happy with whoever it is. If Arnold runs he wont anounce it yet but he does have some good traits. for instance popularity, he is not a carreer polotition he isn't in it for the money. he already has his money so he would/ should be in it for the good of the state.

This one should be very interesting to watch. they were expecting to have 900K sig this week. Looks like there will be a ballot this Nov.

Last month while visiting Cali., I was SO tempted to sign the recall petition but, alas, I am now a registered Hawaii voter
