I would say that anyone considering getting the OEM tips should reconsider. I spent exactly $100, including install, and got better looking tips than the $99 OEM ones...plus I didn't have to do any install work (even though it is minimal), didn't have to paint the insides black, and they don't stick out as far.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the decision! I'll post pics as soon as I can
Good for you! Would you also post the make and model number with your pics? Thanks.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the OEM tip upgrades? Specifically the inlet diameter and length. Thanks

My Tips

I took some time this weekend and made my own. They are 3 inch dia, 4 inches long and attach to the 1.75 exhaust pipe just like the stock ones.

Those are very nice and clean. This is exactly what I want if I do not do a single oval style tip.

Those do look very good, John! I like the slanted cut.

I will try to take pictures of my results and post them!

Those look great! Are they double or single walled? You want to go into production and make me a pair?

Well, I finally got some pictures taken, but they were at dusk with the camera phone (my girlfriend has my camera at the moment), so they're not very good AT ALL. Just to give you an idea...

I found a neither source for tips I believe they are weld-ons, and the smallest is 2.25 but they do look nice.

Here are mine - these are the OEM MCS replacement upgrade tips, painted black just on the inside with high-temp BBQ paint.

I really like those angled tips though... What would you charge to make more of them??? Puh-leeeeze?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
I hope someone said - "Don't do it !"

Isn't the last thing we want to do is polute the MINI community with Exhaust tip Poseurs like another community i am sure we know of has done...

Nothing is more ridiculous than comming up behind a car with a Oil Can exhaust tip that has been so poorly mounted that the rest of the exhaust hangs so low that it looks like it's going to drag on the ground.... OR fall off...

I'd have to say that as you might have guessed that personally, i *don't* go for it...

Hey DeadEye, maybe I'm missing the gist of what you're saying. If so, my apologies. But given the wide range of modding discussed on NAM, I'm sure the MINI community isn't being poluted with Poseurs as you suggest. Most Mini owners would agree that the stock beer can design seems a bit anemic. Many of us look for something that balances out the rear aesthetic. After all, one of the great things about the Mini Cooper (new and old) is that it's easy and fun to mod... a little or lot, it's about personal taste. So there's a HUGE difference between rounding out the look of your Mini's rear end and bolting on a cartoon-sized exhaust pipe with no real performance to back it up. A Poseur is defined as one who affects an identity to impress others... Dude, I'm married with a kid so I don't need to impress anyone. I put the upgraded tips on my Mini because they look cool. I love the looks and sound of the Invidia, it's in my future mod plans. But until then, I'm very happy with the performance (and now the looks) of the stock exhaust. Again, it's all about personal taste and creativity. So don't go hatin' on fellow Mini drivers over a pair of exhaust tips. Peace.

Yeah, I disagree with Deadeye for the simple fact that the OEM beer can tips are a simple bolt on as well, changing the tips is no big deal. Besides the tips have hardly any effect on the noise, not the same as the fart can mufflers you see on Hondas. I do like the OE beer can design even though they are a little small, plus there is a cool story behind the design. For the record my favorite exhaust tips are the trumpets on the Magnaflow, they fill the space nicely.

Yeah, I don't know what that guy's deal is...

Anyway, I'm happy with the results. Mine certainly doesn't look cheesy or cheap at all, and it's welded perfectly. So, it doesn't hang at all and you can't see the muffler at all or anything.

The main reason that I chose it over the factory tips was to avoid painting them and because I didn't want to do the work to shorten them and I personally don't like how much they stick out without the Aero kit rear bumper.

But, to each their own...

+ 1 more -- even those of us driving with OEM tips are posers. I guess we need to just remove the tips and drive with the pipes hanging bare to qualify as authentic.

Plus, (this isn't meant as a personal attack 'cause I think it looks good on your car), but I'm surprised that someone who put an "S" bonnet on their MC would accuse another of being a poser merely for making an aesthetic mod.

Edit: an johnf36: please add me to the frowing list of people who'd be interested in purchasing a set if you decide to produce these.

Bing... Right on Derageo !
Hey I'm not expecting everybody to like what a Collision with a Deer tricked me into doing... Honest I had Plans to either make a functional Air intake OR put an Oil cooler up there ( neither of which is as easy to do as i did NO planning before hand... - DOH ! )

And i'm happy to say ( nobody should care anyway ) that the exhaust tip changes in this post ARE NOT the Wacko kind that i was afraid the Thread starter was endorsing... - I was Off on a tangent before having read ANY off the posts - ( Which is the Best way IMO to go off half cocked ! )

Hey, like I said, I like the look -- the black scoop with the blacked-out grill and the black front fender accents looks awesome on the LY

No worries DeadEye! We Mini folks are a tasteful bunch! But I'm still expecting to pull up at a light someday and see this:
