Bood dip

Okay, this may be an odd question, but does anyone know of a poduct that is available that fits into the dip of the boot and has a hard top that opens and closes? It needs to be flush with the floor when the seats are down.

The reason I ask is because in the state of Oklahoma I can't get a comercial tag for this car because it's not in the truck or suv catigory. The only exception they will make is if when opening the hatch there is a level flooring without a dip.

I've already found the rear seat delete kit, but will also need something to bring the level of the boot higher while possibly making hidden storage space out of the unused area below the top surface.

Thanks in advance to all willing to help.....

Regards,
Mike

You can do this yourself with some plywood, a tape measure and some carpet.

Yes, something like this would be perfect....

Did you put in the rear seat delete kit or are your seats folded down? Also, is there not a boot storage bin that fits into the sunk in part with a hinged lid not available? I'd prefer to have more of a perfect fitting piece made of durible matrieal than just using carpeted plywood. I'd also like for it to be hinged for easy access to store tools and small items.

Man, I just saw that last week but can't remember which website. I do recall that is was kinda expensive.

I think there's a good market here on NAM for this at a reasonable price.

It looks homemade. The seats are out of the MINI, they don't fold down that low or as flat. You are not going to have much in storage though. I think you are going to have to make something. Just measure out the whole area, put hinges going across the middle, above the dip, and carpet the whole thing. You will have a level floor. If you measure correctly, you wouldn't have to mount the piece to the floor, just compress fit it. Hmm, I think I am going to do that as well.

Good luck

Mike,
by "compress fit," Jay means you don't anchor the platforms/shelves to the floor or walls. To do this, you'd make the piece(s) fit very snugly. When snug, they won't move side to side or tilt on steep hills or cornering on two wheels.

Great - I will keep my eye posted. How far along in the process are you? Did you start with the rear seat delete kit or just do everything from scratch? My goal is to make everything look professional, keep the boot's dip with a hinged door on top for access to storage, and possibly any space under the rear seat avalable with hinged access as well.

I haven't even started yet, but I know I want to do this soon. If you've done this, want to do this, or know of a kit somewhere that does this please let me know. The benifit is Mini's will pass for comercial tags as long as the boot dip is covered with a flat truckbed like surface that is flat.
