Yeah, it wasn't too long before then.
A few years ago I was involved in a grass roots effort to get a monument made to the track and the drivers that lost their lives. There was a design and we even started raising money. But then we found out that there were copyright issues associated with the RIR name and track. So while the monument was never made as far as I know, there is now a museum dedicated to the track, http://riversideinternationalraceway.com/index.html.

RIR is where I saw my first road racing. I'll never forget the first time I saw a gaggle of 935s blasting up through the esses.
