Interior/Exterior Small Fire Extinguisher

Small Fire Extinguisher
Hey all!
So I'm driving down the freeway yesterday and I see this guy on the side of the road watching his car burn. After seeing this I thought to myself, self? Might not be a bad idea to have a small extinguisher in the car ya know?
Anyway, I've been looking around online and at local checker autos and the like. All I can find are semi large red fire extinguishers. Can someone point me in the right direction for finding a small maybe chrome or black extinguisher? One that can be mounted would be sweet as well
Thanks

Brey-Krause had a mount that fits under the front of the passenger seat.

You can absolutely buy a cheap chemical extinguisher... but using it on your car may do more harm than good (corrosive)... Halon is best for the kinds of things that burn on cars while doing no further harm, but it's $$$$... you wouldn't want to volunteer your halon to put out a brush fire... or a burning Neon.
Now, there are many who feel that (a) if you're car is REALLY burning, you're more likely to get killed trying than you are to successfully put it out with a small extinguisher, and (b) that they'd rather the car be totaled than end up with a car that has been repaired(?) after a fire.
Me, I at least like to have the option, if the situation ever presents itself...

Wow! Thanks for all the good info and help everyone
Sorry I didn't mention it in my original post, but I am looking for a Halon extinguisher. Halon would be the only material I would want to spray in my engine. Better on electrical components and non corosive.
And like Blimey said, I just want to have the option of putting one out. I mean, if the whole engine bay is engulfed I'll probably run away screaming. But if I see smoke, pull over and my fuse box, hoses or something small has ignited I'd put it out before I watched the whole car go up.
Thanks again for the help everyone!

I used to carry a couple small extinguishers in my 4x4 when I lived in Colorado and the wildfire danger was high. I actually used them to put out a small brush fire on the side of the road that had been started by a cigarette.
However, there is no way in Hell that I am going to do anything but run away from a burning car whether it is mine or someone else's.
Last thing I want is to risk my life to make it possible for the insurance company to repair a car that could have been totaled. I definitely don't want to drive around in a car whose frame may be weakened by the fire.
Certainly having one gives you options, but so does carrying a gas mask with you at all times.

I think we're all in agreement - burning car = run away.
But, having owned an old Triumph with Lucas electrical system, I can attest that there's quite a continuum of combustion between "whisp" and "inferno". About 40% of the continuum on the "whisp" end is worthy of at least ATTEMPTING to control via cutting power and blowing some halon on it... before running away if it escalates...

Can't wait to see you model that mask sometime.

Agreed, Part of my concern is that all my upgrades arent covered under my policy. It's something my agent is "working" on now. Hopefully my rates don't go thru the roof but thats another story.
Aftermarket parts.. more heat, more pressure = fire? I dunno... just trying to be prepared. Maybe I'm just being paraniod a bit

Did you read this whole thread? Lots of good info.
Here's OctaneGuy's how-to for the B-K mount:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ey-krause.html
Whether it sticks out too far seems to depend on which seats you have, and how high you have them jacked up - different MINI seats seem to vary a little in fore-aft position, and as you jack it up, it moves forward.
With my OEM leather seats all the way down (the way I use them all the time) my B-K mount stuck out too far. I shortened it by about 1.5" and all is well.
As I recall - there are some different versions of the B-K mount for different extinguisher mount types. Just need to make sure you get the right combo. The B-K + Safecraft combo works VERY well... you get what you pay for there.

It's 3" diameter, about 10" cylinder length, about 11.5" overall including the head.

Found out something interesting from our fleet supervisor about powder type extinguishers. He got a notice from his supplier that the manufacturers of the extinguishers are now suggesting that all powder type extiguishers be rotated or their mounting be changed so that the material in them doesn't settle. Apparentley there are cases where people were trying to use the extinguisher and they didn't work because the material was actually compacted by the constant vibration of the vehicles to the low point of the bottle.
