This is a good point and it will really make times different.
Mine was soft...like putty.
Heck...The new coops use clips.
Wouldn't that have been nice.

From MU, "So I took a look this morning, and I think you're right, its just held on by some clips."

That's all I know about it....Interesting though.

I didn't bake mine, the glue is very hard, basically like plastic. I tried using a heat gun on the glue where it was sticking out of one of the tabs and the heat barely made it any softer, then I went to plan #2 & cut it with a dremel cutting disc at the bottom of the plastic lip. It was very long & tedious to do on the first one, making sure that I didn't ruin the light in the process. I'm thinking the whole job will be close to 20hrs of labor.

That's pretty nuts man.
Good luck, I didn't bake mine either....I used my fireplace
Mine were 05's, so it was a bit easier.
More power to you

I had to pull my lenses off my 05s a second time, and I didn't even use an oven (or fireplace). I just made sure the thermostat was at 72, and put a little pressure where the clips are. Using just my hands, they came off in 2 min... That glue is pretty sweet.

Not bad...
Mine were cold since they were sitting in my truck in the garage.
It's been cold so I really just warming them up to room temp.
That stuff is great.
They popped right open like a paint can

I bough some 05 xenons (for parts), and when I put those in the oven, I started at 2 minutes @ 150 degrees. I pulled those lenses off w/ my bare hands... Cake. When I put them back together, I didn't even use the oven.

They used a different glue in the 03 than in the 05. You can tell by finding some on the tabs of on the underside edge, before removing the lens, and press the glue w/ your fingernail. If its hard, then good luck. The easier glue will sink in like play-dough.

Actually it took me 15 minutes to get the lens off. The glue is NOT hard. The glue has crazy viscosity.

I placed my headlights on my radiator in my APT for a couple of minutes.
Then start prying w/ a screw driver from the headlight rings on the lens.
Don't apply too much force, you might crack the lens LOL.
Once you see the glue, start shearing with a knife or razer!
If you don't shear it, the glue rebound like a spring.
Chuck in a plastic or wooden thingy so the lens doesn't fully close on you.
Work around the whole lens but notice the 3 small tabs so you don't break it.

Midnite,

What type of paint did you use to get it all shiny and sparkly?

Aren't the DRL's usually off when lows are on? Mine are. The DRL's are 1/2 power highs, so it wouldn't make sense to leave them on.

You know your output is MUCH lower w/ 8000k? The lumens of Phillips 85122+ D2S bulbs are like 3400 (rated 5000k). Those 8000k are about 2800.

If you want that blue flicker (thats why blue bulbs were invented, to mimic the flicker of HID projectors), you need to exadurate the blue color band at the cutoff. You can do that by bending your shield. You get that cool blue look w/ looking ricey and loosing lumens.

Here's an example of the TSX w/ "color mod".

Heres a video of what that looks like. Thats why BMWs look so "purple" from afar. Its not that the bulbs are purple, its that you are only seeing the color band when they come at you.

Thanks Burley,

So your running the phillips bulbs there with a modded shield.
That's the step I'm at now, re-aligning the beams.
What is the proper beam pattern anyway?
Sounds interesting...I might look into swapping to the Phillips bulbs.
I must say though that the blue is intensified since I'm in a closed garage.
On the street, the 8k's seem to light the road up pretty good. Especially anything reflective.

There have been lots of comparisons, and I can post them if you want. Your projectors should have come w/ phillips bulbs as OEM equipment. I'd put them back in.

I did a shield bend on my Cooper projectors before I put in the TSX, and I got some decent color out of them. Let me look for that post...

Here's the post I made a few weeks ago.

"You can do a shield bend, which gets pretty good results. The cutoff shield is accessible without even removing the headlight from the car. Just remove the bulbs, and use something that wont damage the projector to pull the shield closer towards you.

This is no science, and you should do it carefully, and little at at time. If you do this too much, you will mess up your clean cutoff.

Here's what mine look like after modding, and they dont really match. My right one has more color, so I need to go back and bend the left one more.

Bad picture, but the top of the right step has some nice blue / purple. It did not mess up the cutoff, nor the output. Oh, and they're not properly aligned either

PICTURED, LEFT IS STOCK AND RIGHT IS COLOR MODDED
"

Cool, if you can dig that post up that would be great.
After I replied to your post I realized that my 05 did come with the phillips bulbs, just got to dig them out of my garage.

Thanks man.

I just got some new grim figures... here's the actual lumen output...

4300k color = 3400 lumen
6000k color = 2400 lumen
8000k color ~ 1400 lumen (less bright than halogen)

That's odd though..I honestly felt that the new bulbs were brighter than the phillips for some reason, I know that they ended up lighting the way....anything reflective was bright as hell even way in the distance....
I'm really going to do a comparison this weekend though.
