I have the same question. I have an 2" OutMotoring and want to know if a 4" has better reception... dare I say twice the reception?

I have an alta 4", no problems really. Seems to have cut down reception a little bit but not very much, sort of hard to test. I think the 2" looks bad, I imagine more antenna is good?

I had the 4" Alta but switched back to the OEM R.C. antenna since reception was poor in the city. Still get occasional static. Maybe I should get a cb length antenna?

We switched the remote control car antenna for the 2" Out Motoring stubby. It looks quite nice and, with the bump, looks just about right, I think. I dig that it's subtle. The station that I want in El Paso about 60 miles away comes in fine on both.

With the stations in my area, it doesn't matter if you have the OEM antenna, an Alta short antenna, or no antenna at all.

In general the longer the shortie the better the reception, but if you're in an urban area w/ strong signals it shouldn't matter. Plus you can always stash the OEM antenna in the boot for a quick change if you get stuck somewhere with weak signals.
