Ok there are rear mud flaps out there but.... this is where it get crazy, only for the R50 02-04, never for an R53 an not for a 05-06 R50. But a good thing is the stop the crazy action in 06, the R56 all have mud flaps for them. Why did they do this who knows. Here's a link to show you. Click Here!

You right Jedi they didn't make rear mud flaps for the R53. However, there are rear mud flaps which can be installed on it. I was interested in doing this and found the pic below. After tracking things down, they are dealer part #82160149289 they cost $57.50. I bought them, but ended up not installing because I didn't like the way they looked on the car. However, that is subjective and they do look like they will fit. Just ask Rita (post #4)

The only pic I have seen:
The resolution isn't great, but they are good enough to see the two flaws which caused me not to go with them. First they extend to far below the trim which is probably great functionally, but not aesthetically IMO. Second, they wrap around the trim at the top instead of replacing it which looks less than ideal and adhears using two way tape which looks like it will separate the first snow.

Incidentally, I read a number of posts from a few years ago here about rear mudflaps on the R50/53 MINIs. People desired them to keep some of the dust and dirt off of the rear of the car. The general consensus was that they don't seem to help. It's the aerodynamics of the car which are causing the issue, not spray from the tires. That's apparently why there is a rear windshield wiper.
In contrast, front mud flaps were thought to be somewhat helpful.
