Interior/Exterior de-badging cooper marks, but what about the mini logo?
#1
hi,
i have recently decided to de-badge the mini. now most of this is wiht the mini renegade club and what not. i originally strated to do this a few months back. however, i decided to start withteh front mini logo. once i got it off i noticed that there were to little post holes for the badge. so wih the tape still stickey, i re applied the basge back onto teh car. as i didn't want two holes in my hood, nor did i feel like dealing with an auto body shop.
now my question is, is the back mini logo just double sided taped on, or is there two lillte post holes for that one as well? as i would love to take off everything, but only if it is taped on.
thanx

The two prongs were probably held on by two lock washers from the inside. Like This:
The Inside teeth grip the plastic to hold it on. If you had to really pull hard to get the emblem off, then it probably had them.

I'll drive around with holes in my bonnet and boot if BMW/MINI does not come up with an agreeable solution that allows MCO to continue to be the top-notch resource and community for MINI owners.
BMW, MINI-USA please continue to support your enthusiasts rather than antagonize and attack them. We are your greatest asset and we are the ones that gave you the money to litigate against MCO.

spj, why is our de-badging such an issue for you? No, it's not going to make a big statement to BMW, but my reasons for wanting a badgeless car are two-fold. For one, I never like sporting corporate logos on my clothing or belongings. And secondly, it'll feel good to do something with my anger other than writing letters. I don't expect a lot of people to de-badge, certainly not you, but just let us go to town with the dental floss if it makes us happy.
I slso happen to like the clean look. I'm going for a minimalist look. No stripes, rally lights, stickers, etc. Just a simple classy style.

Listen, debadging for aesthetic reasons is fine (I know...you were craving my permission weren't you?). De-badging strictly to protest this silliness is akin to those who riot and burn down their own neighborhood to spite "The Man" across town (as I wrote in another thread).
Sort of like cutting off your badge to spite your car.
I simply cannot fathom being THAT pissed off over this tempest in a teapot.

hey, now, please no fighting on my thread. i understand that we all have our differences for wnating to do something or to not do it. my reasons are that i really like the badgeless look, and i wanted to do this, so i will join on in onsaturday for the de-badging party. my main reason hasnothing to do with the legal actions taking place. yes it made me mad, and i wna tot do somehting about it, but taking off the markings on your car isn't going to solve anything. some of us wnat to do it out of spite, some want to do it because they like the look, and some don't want to take them off at all. i just wanted to know if the rear mini logo could be removed without holes behind it.
and i don't want any legal action against me for using their names on my car.
so please just try to get along here and realize tht we all have our own differences.
thanx

I can totally appreciate this angle; and I think it definitely goes with the aesthetic that you've been working on with your MINI over time.

^^ I LOVE that!!!

>>Exactly. A half dozen badgeless MINIs will surely bring BMW to its filthy knees!
Something's been bugging me about ^^^^ this de-badging badger. I seemed to remember a very old post with a comment about badges. Today, I had a minute to search and found it. Why the 180 degree turn around spj?

Badges? You don't need no stinking badges!
Somebody had to do it...

Oh, NOW the truth comes out HARMINI.
I was thinking the other day at how much I really like my Carhartts because they are logging jeans with the chaps sewn on the thighs. And my dress shirts (which I never wear anymore ) have plaketts, or what ever they are called, on the backs.
And you know my MINI has lights and stripes and checks and rally decals and NYMMG wings (so sue me BMWNA) and even a horn that embarasses Roberta.
Actually, you are (I am?) making that lovely shade of green of HARMINI with nothing added sound very enticing!

>>hehe.....sanity, if our little quarrel keeps this thread on the pulse, maybe someone who hasn't chimed in about the mini logo will see it and give us a new idea about removing them.

Here are some suggestions, since we are not upset with the car, but rather the company:
1) Get black electrical tape and tape over the badges. Trim it so it follows the edges. It'll symbolize a black shroud over MINI.
2) Get red electrical tape. Trim it length-wise and put it diagonally across the badge....meaning, "NO to MINI"
This way, once this all gets resolved, it's an easy fix.
Secondly, more people would probably ask you about why your badges are like that (instead of thinking that your badges were stolen) AND THEN you can fill them in on THE SCOOP!

I tend towards a minimalist approach in general, and because of where I have to park my MINI, I've always debated what I would do if my badges started getting swiped by kids (...the thieving, marauding punks! ), as was the trend some years ago. Since nothing of the kind has happened, I'm still debating (yes, voices in my head!). Basically, depending on cost (or not), I'd really want to look into the body shop alternative...fill the holes and paint. I think it would look pretty cool!

Wow - this thread has really gone astray!
Unfortunatly, I had my front badge stolen. The guy at the parts counter said it is not unusual for the mini badges (or the BMW badges) to be stolen. For $40 (ouch!) he was willing to sell me a replacement! I didn't have much choice but to pay their ransom to get one back!!!! If the holes were not there, I would consider the de-badging option.
By the way, the two prongs are only to align it properly on the hood. There are no clips on the back of it - only the tape. I guess that's good, so when they steal the badge, they don't scratch the car too bad!!!
So - sounds like you can de-badge, and make a little money on the side to fund other mods
