Gauges!?!?

Ok I have been getting mixed answers from various people about this question. I have NO Chrono package I have the BIG speedo with the little tiny RPM gauge on my steering wheel. Is it POSSIBLE to take those out and INSTALL the Chrono package(SWAP)???? If it is can someone send me to a link to show me how to? Money isn't a problem for me so I don't care how much it costs. Thank you.

So you think I should go to the dealer for it?

I doubt it. Unless MINI sells an official retrofit kit with complete instructions, most dealers would not attempt it and simply say it can't be done.

In various forums, I've never heard of anyone actually doing it (and as a curious engineer I would have been interested in the topic). So I think it is very unlikely that you will find anybody with first hand experience. The procedure would involve changing out all the parts that are different, and getting the computer reflashed. Obviously the gauges need to be changed, and the question is whether wiring harnesses are different. You can research the wiring diagrams and part numbers for configurations with and without the Chrono pack.

So where do you think I should go first in order to do that?

If you look under VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM on realoem, it doesn't seem to show any harnesses specific for chrono (which suggests that center speedo and chrono use the same harnesses). My intuition is that all of the gauges run off of digital signals on the CAN bus and the chrono will just plug in, but this is just an educated guess based on limited information. If cost is truly not an issue, I would get the gauges and plug them in (if the connectors are different, you'll know that you also have to get harnesses), and have the dealer reprogram the computer.

Did you ever end up doing this swap? Somewhat frequently I have the same thought - I want the 2 gauges over the steering column... can't say why, just do!
