Rennline racing pedal set R53
A friend who owns Rennline.com asked if he could use my 2006 R53 for a photoshoot - of course!
Before
Prior he came over to take some measurements and showed me that my stock R53 pedals are basically ALL rubber caps with a little stainless cover, they just pull off the pedals. Try it, go down and pull one off, you'll be amazed at the BMW/MINI rubber engineering. Anything I can do to get my old '72 911 Carrera RS replica pedal feel, the better, drill away! Now I understand the vagueness of stock R53 feeling shifting and pedals, of course some of it has to do with the cable shifter too.
Install
Sorry for the product plug, but it's not that often you get asked to have your ride in a photoshoot! Ok, so it's where all the dirt ends up and ONLY my pedals, but still I'm excited, on with the photos... My brother was out from Lake Tahoe over the 4th holiday and just happened to also bring his camera, some of the install outtakes from the shoot.
- The gas pedal just pops off the plastic e-throttle extension just like a Porsche 996. Requires a pair of vise grips to re-install.
- If you look closely, in the below photo the stock rubber brake pedal cover is off and on the floor mat upside down. The phillips and open end wrench are pointing to it - it's a big rubber boot!
- The dead pedal just mounts over the existing stock one, pretty simple.
Ouch! that hurts...
- He had to use a special sized bit for the gas pedal as it's stainless steel. I'm sure it will be noted in the instructions. There wasn't much room down there either. And in his experience of fitting some BMW race pedals, noted that all BMW clutch pedals are kind of shifted down from the brake pedal, so they won't line up perfectly when installed.
After
Amazing difference. Solid brake feel, shifting has improved, heel & toe is effortless in street driving. I might take the pedal extensions off and try this for the week too. I cringed at having him drill the holes, but the first moment operating my R53 in the seat confirmed it was worth it. Very nice product, I feel even more connected now
And the photo that was used...

While pedals like this look great, the biggest difference IMHO is FEEL... the OEM pedal covers (especially on the brake) are "squishy"... replacing them with any alloy race-style cover makes a braking modulation improvement you can feel immediately. Or at least I could.
These look GREAT in your car, BTW - love the pedal extensions on the accelerator.

Somewhere I thought I read it's a PITA to pull off the gas pedal. Is there any truth to this? Someone had all kinda of fun trying to yank it off, I thought. And, how long did install take? I'm assuming the gas pedal is the hard part with the others just being drill holes and screw in place.
