the light output is no where near as good as factory xenons. even if u buy the "HID" versions that are on eBay. im sure they will be lacking the sharp cutoff that oem has....but as for the auto-leveling...thats a waste of money and worthless in this country(I believe is mandatory in UK). Unless u and a passenger weigh 500lb each, and are hauling a pontoon boat, it will not yield any benefits, other than a little light show when you turn the lamps on each time.....so in a MINI..pointless.

if they were like this...theyd be worth the extra money and technology
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/09/s...ts-are-coming/

so I wouldnt ditch current xenons for these...unless ur only concerned with looks

PS there are quite a few other threads where people have questioned, purchased, and installed these very same lights.

They suck as lights, but they sure look cool! Like the others who have them, I can't figure out how to adjust them (as they are essentially unadjustable), and the output is woeful, but the little parking light halos look good, and they come with the Joey mod built in.
What do you expect for 300 bucks, though? That's just a nice bottle of wine...

thanks for the advice and yes i know i shouldnt expect MUCH but if anyone has seen them do you know if they emit brighter than stock halogens .....or with certain bulbs ( any reccomendations ) what would be brighter than stock halogens ...and yes i know all you fortunate xenon owners you have sexy *** lights but i wasnt lucky enough to find them on the lot that fateful day lol

OK, you must have missed my post: I have them, and they suck...in terms of light output! Worse than stock Halogens, worse than Xenons. Maybe you could find a replacement bulb that puts out better lighting, but I wouldn't trust the wiring harness to handle more current. They are 9-5 lights, really.

you may want to consider the "HID" version of those lights, they SHOULD put out more light, but may also cause some glaring as the cut off isnt as sharp as true HID. they cost a little more than the halogen ones though....essentially the same thing, just come with ballast and hid bulbs.

put is this way, if i had plain halogen, id take a chance and go with the "hid" version. or id buy 04 and earlier xenon lights....or save up a bunch and buy 05+ xenons...which will cost u well over $600 for a used set.

im currently piecing together an 05 set of xenons...so my joey modded 04s will be up for sale soon i hope.

My $.02 on those things is if you have halogens, buy a set of Silverstars and be happy. If you have the cash, do a true xenon conversion. If you have xenons, buy a higher Kelvin-rated set, put Silverstars in the highs and happy. If you want the looks, Joey mod the factory lights or at least paint the rings. I don't trust much if any Ebay non-name brand items. These are the same people who try and sell the "50 HP in 5 minute" modules.

u bake them to aid in removing the lens so that you can gain access to paint the inside of the headlight. in the mini community, the task of painting the inside of your headlamps, is known as joey mod.

If you are careful, you can find non name brand items on Ebay that aren't bad. These lights don't put out very good light, but to me I have bad nightvision anyway. So for a sum up, they look cool, save you the headache of joey modding, and the construction is not bad at all, especially for only $300. I still think after tinkering with the screws a little, my light output is a little better than stock. The problem is having to raise the bonnet to adjust, then lower it, etc........ Adjusting headlights is soooooo much easier in a car that doesn't have lights in the bonnet.

Why is it called a Joey Mod? Where did the name come from?

I believe it was named after a guy who did it to a Subaru--and it became famous on those Boards. It's always been linked to Subis from what I've read. It's the heating up in the oven bit that distinguishes the Joey...

Any luck on adjusting the dip beams effectively? I've had a lot of headaches losing those plastic white pieces INSIDE the headlight..

uhh any updates on this? I want to know because I'm considering getting the HID Halo Projectors. I currently have stock 04's Halogens with PIAA H7 Xtreme bulbs. I like the look of the halos and the HID's is a +. If there's a way to adjust these I'm all over them. If their not that bright (the HID set) can I just bought the halogen set and then a good HID conversion kit to go with it?
