Until now, I'd never seen carbon fiber that wasn't black/gray.
One thing your friend might want to look into is kevlar/carbon fiber.
The kevlar fibers are woven in perpendicular to the carbon fibers. The result is a yellow and black "checkerboard" effect. It looks great.
