Red Bull's Latest Mod... Wheels Painted Black - PICTURES
Hello All
Here is the latest project for Red Bull. After searching a long time for a set of wheels I couldn't find anything I liked more than the Factory JCW ones that came with the car. So I decided to prep and paint them black. Here are some pictures of the process.
After cleaning the wheels and removing the wheel weights its prep time. You can use a grey ULTRA Fine scuff pad or wet/dry 1000 sand paper. The scuff pad works great on these wheels because of the small spaces you have th get into. If your going to do these plan on a spending the day on them.
I first use my small spray gun to get into the tight spaces
Here is one wheel with base coat only, no clear. You have to build a fixture when your painting to be able to stand the wheel upright.
Here is the wheel after 4 coats of clear coat and ready for mounting Friday morning.
1. Material used and steps
2. Simple Green
3. Grey Ultra Fine scuff pad- You must get every surface or the paint will not bond.
4. Prep solvent the entire wheel and let dry. We use PPG DT320
5. Spray Base coat (3) good coats PPG Deltron 2000
6. You can spray (2) coats of clear but I like to lay them on at least (4) PPG Deltron 3000 mid temp.
