Thanks Phil...now I just have to wait until it gets warm here so I can do the Joey mod.
I also like the Aero grille, and I think the airflow through it is better than the slats...and we all know that airflow is key.

Here is a nice and inexpensive option. Original grill slats blacked out, and fog light insets blacked out. The scoop has been darkened a bit with a stick-on hood scoop venturi, as it is named.

Those fog light thingys look great, Terry! As you say, not too much trouble or expense for a unique look.

Yes they do indeed, thanks. Voltage makes them and worth every penny of $15. They are a little tricky to apply properly, but like anything else...... once you know how....

This is in keeping with my theme of small exterior changes, not too gaudy. Nice and clean, I want a cool and high perf look not cute or gaudy.

I must say that the Aero grill does look pretty damn nice. I would seriously consider if it was available with the chrome surround. BTW, the chrome on my OEM grill surround is in horrible condition up close. It has tons of dings in it all over. It is more susceptible to damage than the paint. That is pretty crappy chrome.

The best is:

1. Aero grille at the top, with the border painted.

2. Aero bumper, with the middle slot filled in (I think the kids would call it "shaved").

3. Regular aero bumper lower grille.

I'm sure someone has a photo of such a set up somewhere.

Probably could be done with M7 grilles, but I don't like how easily you can see through them. Also could be done with stock bumper.

That is definitely a unique look with the lower part of the upper grill shaved.

Thanks for digging those up.

Here's a Photoshop job I did on a PW MCS with the aero bumper. I keep this filed under Ideas For When I Have More Money Than Brains.

I like that look, it is similar to the Audi front ends.

I'm not completely sold on this look just yet. But, if you're going to shave the lower grill slat, may as well shave the turn indicators.

Has anyone run the aerokit front bumper with the factor grills?? I'm thinking the smooth chrome surrounds painted body color and the slats painted flat black would keep the aggressive feel of the aerokit bumper but take some of the edge away.

Your image link broke so I'm not sure what you did, but I wouldn't want to drive without turn signals. It would be nice to somehow push the signals out so the lenses were flush with the bumper instead of recessed. You also could shave the fog light openings and remove the Mini badge.

Attachment fixed, click image for full view. Shaving the emblem requires bodywork on the hood, I was keeping it to the bumper. It would be easy enough to wire a strip of amber LEDs as indicators in-between the grill slats. I wouldn't drive without front indicators either.

Pureworks, I'm not a fan of the blacked out headlight rings on most MINIs (it rarely works well), I think it'd look TONS better painted Pepper White with a grey Joey mod to set it off a bit.

So, has anyone run the factory grill slats on the aerokit bumper?

It has been done, generally by people who wanted chrome grills on their aerokit.

That thread is from 2004 and the pics are probably gone. At least those two posts describe the process.

Yeah no doubt, sounds like it's kind of annoying to get the perfect fitment but it just looks so clean.
