Thanks, 8ball, I didn't see you post before my last one. Now Moss is claiming difficulty in getting the bolts , so I might end up doing what you suggested for now.

Well. I was going to write about what an amazingly easy install I had this morning with my MOSS (vie Mini Motorsports) skid plate, but alas, that wasn't exactly the case....going to post a new thread.

>>Also, pooky, it seems to me that if anyone else is selling the skid plate, they're just buying from MOSS, so you might as well just buy it from MOSS. Actually, I think I got an email recently saying that the powder-coated ones are on sale this month or something. Check it out.

Ooops, I just called MOSSMINI and the parts customer guy said they don't have the skid plate available for my build date of April '03. He said he wouldn't attempt to fit it to my MINI. So I'll have to wait until they have one made for my baby.

Thanks anyways guys for your help.

Wow! That's bizarre....I've never heard that before. Maybe that's why it didn't fit my May build MCS!

I bought mine in the great Mini Cooper Parts clearance of '03. And there were no warnings of model build dates. The thing is, it *almost* fits perfectly....it's off by like 1/4 inch on a single hole. When I change my oil in a week or two, I'm going to take the whole thing off, drill the hole, and then reinstall semi-permanently...

What great shots of the underside, especially of the infamous and unprotected power steering fan housing. I need to get the PS fan housing shroud from Moss.

BTW, I note you are using the Rhino ramps. Great stuff at under $30. Does the lip at the end of the ramp stop the tires while ramping up slowly, or did you have someone to guide you and say, "Stop!"

skid plate, easy

This thread's been around a while, but i tend to procrastinate. I just installed my brushed steel skid plate. It's been in a box in my garage since October 03, it's now June 04. I got it from Moss on sale, 169.95 marked down to 99.95. The "shipped part numer" is 100-061, but the description notes "priced to match 100-059". Not sure what that means, but I remember some buzz about which model will it fit. It fit my February 03 model perfectly. Install was very easy, less than 20 minutes. Just ordered the drain valve from fumotovalve. Clearly needed. If someone can tell me why I need loctite on the bolts, I'll put some on when I take it down to drain the oil and replace the plug.

I did the skid plate eons ago, and have added the Fumoto nippled drain (106N) as I just placed a bit of 3/8 i.d. rubber tubing around the nipple, and I have an instant drain-away for changing oil. WooHoo!. Skid plate never comes off now, and only a small amount of oil to wipe up when I change the filter element.
