Yes it's easily removable. It's almost like a painted skin that you just peel off (once you get an edge). That's one of the pro's about it. If you don't like it, peel it off, and there is no damage to the chrome.
The beltline is taped up with colored vinyl tape. You can buy it from outmotoring.com for about 15 bucks shipped or go to your local auto parts store / home depot and find weather resistant 3M electrical tape. It's the same thing, but much cheaper, I bought a whole roll for about 5 bucks and I have enough to do 5 cars. Note: The electrical tape maybe a bit thicker than the blackout tape most vendors advertise, but it's perfectly OK and works just as good if not better.

Your car looks awesome. I want to do flat black stripes on my MCS too! I have questions about that though - is it a problem when you polish/wax to have the flat stripes there? I would fear that you'd have to be careful to not smudge up the finish on the stripes... any owners insight? Also, where'd you get 'em? Thanks!

Their all pretty much the same thing. Electrical tape...vinyl tape...they do the same thing and get the job done. I opt for the weather resistant one because their good for under 33 degrees and over 120 degrees. You just tape on top of the chrome. Removal is a bit difficult as you'd wanna heat it up with a hair dryer to soften the glue to remove. I'm not sure what you mean by tape over and under the lips of the chrome.

When I had mine done, Mike from AE just pulled the chrome belt off the car. It comes up very easily. Then he wrapped the ends underneath and put it back on the car. I did mine all in flat black and it turned out awesome!

Sorry, this just sounds so elementary, I can't see how you get such a good look with tape.

Hey there, Carjoy! Do you have any close up pics? The chrome belt may come off easily, does it also go back on easily???

LOL Yeah, it went back on easily. You can check out all the pictures I took of the whole process at http://s224.photobucket.com/albums/d...oy39/blackout/. Mike has great shots of the finished product too on his site at http://www.aestheticreations.net/gal...tnightfire.htm. I didn't go the tape route. I just didn't feel it would look good and stand the test of time.

i dont think taking the beltline off is really necessary. This mod is super simple. i think we're looking into it a little to hard.
you can buy the strip of black vinyl and you just wrap it on the car over the belt line. its just black vinyl so it comes off really easily and quickly.
takes about 20 min to install. just use your thumb and an exacto knife.
