Yellow Headlight Tint

So Ive been toying with the idea of doing LeMans style yellow headlights on my Mini for the last week or so, but I hadnt actually seen it done on another Mini until yesterday when I was at Minspeed and somebody rolled up with it done.

So if anybody else on here has it (especially on a Hyper Blue), then post up some pics

First of all, your Mini looks awesome

Second, the headlights look sweet - do it! If you do it and hate it, the most you'll be out is 30 bucks for the film, but that looks hot.

^^Thanks man. Im going crazy without my car right now (The A/C went so it's been living at the dealer for the last few days) and Im just making a little list of mods for when I get it back.

Ive been searching for a while and Ive only found pics of 3 other cars w/ yellow tint. I know some more of you guys have it, or have pics of someone elses.

Somewhere here on NAM there is a pure silver MCS that has the yellow headlight tint. If I could only remember which thread it was in I would post a link to it. Anyone know where you can buy the tint? And for someone who has the tint, how does it affect how the headlights look at night?

I saw a LY MCS at AMVIV that had yellow tint and it look really good. Made me want to do it. I would look into lamin_x yellow tint if you do it. Which I think you should.

Well, finally found it in pure silver....as they say, always in the last place that you look....which I never understood since why would you keep looking after you had found whatever you were looking for????

Absolutely love that look!!
Please keep us updated as to how long you have them on b4 LEO stops and harasses you.
I have yellow bulbs in my brights, and have not been stopped, but I had yellow film on my old VW Scirocco, and was stopped twice and told to remove it.
Again, looks sweeeeeet!

I think the Anti-yellow is a largely FL thing. I've had yellow film (thats my car up in post #7) for over two years, driven in more than 30 states with it and not one traffic stop. I have a friend that's an investigator, he hadn't worked traffic detail in 10+ years, he gave me a heads up that it probably was and I reconfirmed in the current statutes book that it was allowed.

I also know it is legal to have "yellow headlights" in IL TN CA and CO, however many states like CA have laws against "film" to prevent smoking headlights, as a safety issue. YMMV, but where you are is a large part of it IMO.

Also Johnny, be sure to wash them and put a wax on them every 3 months or less religiously, don't want them to fade out.

BTW it looks really slick, I meant to post earlier when you first did them but got side tracked

So, are you saying it is legal in Florida, or just Illinois? If Florida, can you pass along the info.
Thanks so much.

Legal in IL, I haven't dove through the FL statutes to look for it yet, but last I heard FL was a no-yellow state.

Heres some info on FL law regarding headlights

Basically, its illegal. $71 fine for a non-moving violation. I know plenty of people that have never had a problem with their headlight tints. I think if you're speeding, driving recklessly, and not wearing a seatbelt, then they'd probably tack it on. They probably dont wanna do the paperwork for some yellow headlight tint.

That looks pretty nice. How is the light output at night?

I can actually see better than before the tint. The yellow gives me more contrast and less glare.

found this online "California Highway Patrol Lt. Mike Soubirous said section 25950 of the California Vehicle Code states all emitted light visible from the front of a vehicle is to be white, white-to-yellow or yellow. "Sometimes a set of headlights do appear white-blue," he said. "You see it on some newer cars." sounds like a loophole to me with the whole "or yellow" line so ima do it on my DS MCS

Just be sure to check that it complies with the "film" requirements of CA's code as well, otherwise lamps may be ok, stained glass lenses might be ok but a film may not be approved.

any suggestions on where to buy the yellow film? i'd prefer pre-cut. found a few places on-line but wondering who's had a good experience buying them. I am in Ohio and have searched our code. No restrictions on yellow lenses.

I am in ohio also and would like to have these, but my question is that is the tint on the outside of the lens then how durable is it to road debris and the "sandblasting" or better still in the rust belt the "saltblasting" effect of daily driving?
