Does YOUR sunroof boom like a drum?
I have a 2005 Cooper (non-S) and I have found my sunroof booms like a drum when I run over uneven pavement, when I slam the door, and it even is always ringing deeply along with my exhaust/road rumble. Try this, use the soft palm of your hand to drum on the center of your headliner next to the cabin light (between the two panes of your sunroof), does it ring deeply for a second or two? If anybody else can hear this, can it be stopped? Is it just something to live with, Maybe my sunroof is not properly tightened? I'd love some honest and not to sarcastic input if you have it to offer.

my guess is that the sunroof panel just needs to be raised a little. in my r56, there are torx screws along the inside of the railing for easy adjustment. remember the front edge should be even are a little below the roof while the back edge a little above for appropriate wind noise reduction.

This noise happens when the car is parked, so I don't think it is wind noise.

i just meant if you did readjust the sunroof, to do it properly or you can get wind noise you didn't have before. i'm guessing your panel is somehow really tight (from warping or misalignment over time) that it really has become a "drum". whenever i slam my door i see my sunroof normally rise a little bit. if it didn't and was stuck, maybe it would "drum". once again, it's just a guess.

Cool, nearly 100 views! If anybody who looks at this post happens to own a Mini Cooper, and still drives it, I would appreciate if you could give the headliner a thump before you take off on your next drive, and let me know if it is just a quick dead thump, or a deep boom that lasts a second or two like mine.
Thanks!
I promise I will ask about tires, or post a link to a "sick sounding exhaust" next time. I know that brings people to a thread like free money!

Ill go outside and try it on my 05 MCS, will edit this post with results.
EDIT: Went out there and banged around (open palmed of course) and nothing out of the ordinary. No boom, just a thump.
Was hard to resist the temptation to just drive....

That is one vote that I may be alone in my resonating sunroof (lucky me!), I may have to pull my headliner and see "what's up", if I get a few more votes that corroborate the dead roof theory...thanks!

I went to my local BMW dealer last night to pick up a part for my 5301, and there was a cooper on the used car lot, the door was unlocked so I popped inside and gave the headliner a "rap" dead center just behind the driver's seat...BOOOOOOM, it rang like a marching bass drum (ok, it was not quite that bad)...guess what is ringing sympathetically with modified exhaust when people ask about drone?
If you have ever struck an unplugged electric guitar next to an acoustic guitar you should get the picture, same strings but one is way louder unplugged because it's top resonates freely, and has a box shaped and tuned to project that resonance, these sunroofs are not to be overlooed when trying to soundproof, they are right above your head and singing away with every bump and every note of the exhaust.
