Best bike / snowboard rack options?

I'm looking for Bike / Snowboard rack options for my '06 MCS.

I don't really mind carrying my snowboard in the car but it's tricky to get my road bike in the back. I manage to do a little more minor damage (scratch the plastic) each time I put it back there.

I'd like something that causes the least damage to the car. Don't want something that requires modifications (drilling), but controlled modification would be preferred to a strap-on rack denting, scratching, or flying off on the highway.

Any recommendations?

I had the same issues, I went with a yakima roof rack (q-towers etc I can get you the part numbers). It's dead simple to put on and off, no dents, holds two bikes no problem. you can use it for anything really. they state on the MINI you shouldnt go more than 100lbs on it.

people also recommended the bones rear hatch rack. I've never used it, but I've used others that dented etc. and for the cost of the bones rack, I got the yakima with accessories for the roof. just my 2c

The MINI rack is rated for a max of 165 pounds, not 100.

From the MINI accessory site:
Roof Rack System
Designed specifically for MINI, the MINI Roof Rack System delivers the ultimate in motoring flexibility, with optional adapters for an array of outdoor pursuits. The system features crossbars made from high-strength extruded aluminum tubing to provided stability, corrosion resistance and support for up to 165 lbs of cargo. Price does not include installation.
This item fits years: 2003 - 2006 S.
Specific attachment accessories (for bike, snowboard, etc.) are extra.

I was responding to the above, since you mentioned a weight specification/limitation that appeared to be coming from MINI (your use of "they"). If weight capacity was a concern, I wanted the OP to have accurate information, in the event that this aspect might shift the aversion to "modification" of the car.

OK...

MINI = drilling, permanent, expensive install, 165lbs weight capacity, OEM
Yakima = no drilling, temporary, install yourself, 100 lb capacity, non-OEM

You could always get a MINIFINI system or a Minidomore hitch and use a generic rack.
