I've decided to upgrade my interior. I got a couple of estimates and it's not cheap. With that said, I want to make sure I do this right. I'm going to have the all seats, door panels and rear panels wrapped in leather. A couple of installers suggested alcantara mix, but I'm afraid alcantara will not hold up well over time. I'm also going to install sound dampening through out.

Anyone else have custom leather upgrades? If so, please show us!

What are your thoughts/experience with alcantara?

Durabiltiy wise, not great for a family truckster.

 

Are you having a local shop do the leather? I'd double check and make sure that they have the proper break-away seam thread for the airbags that are in the seats. My local guy is unable to do my (front) seats because he couldn't source the thread.

Just pointing that out in case there happens to be that one horrible day that those airbags have to work.

I have seen some alcantara material on seating surfaces in a few vehicles that have seen some use, and I'll say that it doesn't wear all that well in my opinion. Personally, I'd stick with a good leather for the seating surfaces and any area that is constantly touched / that can be soiled by oils in the skin.

It is in my experience that Alcantara works well on seats but not on things like steering wheels.

Yes, I'm having it done by a professional and they are aware of the seat airbags. I'm probably going to put alcantara in the door panels (behind the door handle), but don't think I'm going to put on seats and definitely not steering wheel.
